Scandal Strikes the McCain Campaign

Featured Replies

It pains me greatly to mention this latest news. MSNBC is reporting that the NY Times has revealed that John McCain may have had an inappropriate relationship with a female lobbyist several years ago. Now, why they waited until now to drop this bomb, is anyone's guess.

The story reported: "Mr. McCain said that the relationship was not romantic and that he never showed favoritism to Ms. Iseman (the lobbyist) or her clients. 'I have never betrayed the public trust by doing anything like that,' he said. He made the statements in a call to Bill Keller, the executive editor of The New York Times, to complain about the paper’s inquiries."

The pundits are all licking their chops. Speculation is flying as to the implications this might have for Mike Huckabee's heretofore deceased campaign hopes.

Who is the NY Times backing in the Presidential race?

Who is the NY Times backing in the Presidential race?

They endorsed McCain and Clinton in the primaries in NY. Their opinion writers are split between Clinton and Obama in the Democratic race, but I think were pretty solid for McCain on the other side.

Even Alan Colmes agreed that this is a non factual hit and run by the Times. They had Bob Bennett, who is a Democrat, on the show tonight. He did the original investagation on McCain and he told the Times when he was called about it that it wasn't true and they should not run the story.

This is a weak non-issue, and one of the reasons that politics disgust's me.

I'm a little suprised by the timing. Why couldn't they release this in December when they had it when the Republicans still had a choice? If they really wanted to sabotage McCain, why didn't they wait until this October? Also, if this info was out there why didn't the other Republicans get it and push it?

The mainstream media has been giving McCain a free pass for years because he is willing to stab fellow Republicans in the back on national TV. Whether this story is true or not, the NY Times and their ilk have truckloads of slime just waiting to dump on McCain if that is what it takes to deliver the White House to their chosen Democratic candidate.

Even if this rumor is true, it pales in comparison to the Rezko scandal, which has not been given the attention that it deserves.

As for the timing, McCain was the probably the second most liberal Republican candidate running and therefore, the weakest candidate running. There was no reason for the NYT to spend ammo attacking McCain until he became the presumptive nominee.

According to Matt Drudge, the timing was due in part to McCain. Drudge does not get enough credit for his accurate reports. McCain does not want to get into a war with the NY Times. They have been holding fire on McCain for many years.

MEDIA FIREWORKS: MCCAIN PLEADS WITH NY TIMES TO SPIKE STORY

Thu Dec 20 2007 10:49:27 ET

Just weeks away from a possible surprise victory in the primaries, Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz has been waging a ferocious behind the scenes battle with the NEW YORK TIMES, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned, and has hired DC power lawyer Bob Bennett to mount a bold defense against charges of giving special treatment to a lobbyist!

McCain has personally pleaded with NY TIMES editor Bill Keller not to publish the high-impact report involving key telecom legislation before the Senate Commerce Committee, newsroom insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

The paper's Jim Rutenberg has been leading the investigation and is described as beyond frustrated with McCain's aggressive and angry efforts to stop any and all publication.

The drama involves a woman lobbyist who may have helped to write key telecom legislation. The woman in question has retained counsel and strongly denies receiving any special treatment from McCain.

Because it's not true.

I hope you are right, but McCain has been ethically challenged in the past.

Who in their right mind would have an affair with that man????? If true, people never cease to amaze me!

First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the women.

Maybe she was a sucker for a "straight talker"...
