February 20, 200818 yr We're hearing one side of this. Remember that. I can spin anything and everything you want if I'm the only one putting forth information. Did he Cuss at him directly, was it specifically toward him, was it a long, drawn out thing or did it just seem that way? Has it been addressed before and we're hearing the rest now? Was it because of the pounding at Vandy and venting by BCG? Have they butted heads?(Not everyone, even parents and former coaches completely know a kid, and then you throw the first taste of independence out there, too, who knows?
February 20, 200818 yr That really was a stupid time to be laughing. You know, if you don't like the coach or his rules, nobody is making you play. And now, nobody is allowing you to play. A 5'9" guard walking on at UK should consider himself lucky and be very thankful.
February 20, 200818 yr I've got no problem with this, it would've made me mad too and for all we know he may have been cutting up at inappropriate moments during the Vandy game as well which was the last straw for BCG.
February 20, 200818 yr I think I need to hear the rest of the story before I pass judgement on either.
February 20, 200818 yr Seems a little harsh to get that upset over this. However, BCG is the coach and you stand by his rules!
February 20, 200818 yr I think Bradley's comments at the end of the story are the most telling in the whole she-bang.
February 20, 200818 yr I don't think that this particular incident is a big deal, but it supports a lot of what I hear of how Billy Clyde interacts with his players...
February 20, 200818 yr A 5'9" guard walking on at UK should consider himself lucky and be very thankful. So that gives the coach a reason to be disrespectful and demeaning towards one of his players? And if it was because of what happened in the first UGA game, why did he wait until after the Vandy game?
February 20, 200818 yr Mills knew the rules going in and he decided to laugh. He should've know some sort of punishment was coming and this was possible. I take it this is why Williams didn't make the trip to LSU?
February 20, 200818 yr I'd assume that Dusty Mills isn't as innocent as he is painting himself. I'd bet what happened is that Gillespie didn't do anything about the UGA incident, but if this kid was goofing around after the 41 point loss (which I am assuming happened or something like that) then I am sure he laid it into him. For the record, this is just speculation from the very little I have seen Mills around.
February 20, 200818 yr "Mills, an end-of-the-bench fan favorite from Noblesville, Ind., said he and Williams laughed because of what happened after a Dave Bliss foul flattened Bradley. Perhaps recalling Gillispie’s irritation that no one helped a UK player confronted by Houston players earlier in the season, a teammate left the bench to head toward Bradley at the other end of the court. Thinking of a possible technical foul, Mills played peacemaker by grabbing the teammate and steering him back to the bench. Mills and Williams laughed at the thought of a 5-foot-8 freshman taking charge of a much larger teammate. Adding to the effect, the teammate stumbled on the return trip." Man, if somebody did that on my team, they wouldn't even make it back to the bus....
February 20, 200818 yr Mills knew the rules going in and he decided to laugh. He should've know some sort of punishment was coming and this was possible. I take it this is why Williams didn't make the trip to LSU? There is a rule against laughing?
February 20, 200818 yr Mills knew the rules going in and he decided to laugh. Is there some sort of no laughing rule?
February 20, 200818 yr Is there some sort of no laughing rule? No, but how about we have the players pay attention to the game instead of talking to one another about other things. Yes you can laugh but there is a time and place for that. Same thing with baseball, how about we have a little less sunflower-seed spitting contests, and a little more paying attention to your teammates on the field. Exactly what happened in that situation. I'm not just trying to pick on Mills because I know a lot of other people do it too, but you never see Crawford or Bradley (when he's actually on the bench) laughing it up on the bench in tight games or even when you're getting blown out. There is a time and place and players should already know that. When it's gametime and you step on that court your sole focus should be on that game and not be about what time the party is, what you're doing this weekend..etc
