The sad thing is he probably does want Hillary to win and he probably hopes that she'll totally mess up the country during her Presidency just to help bring the country back towards the right. The fact that our country could be really messed up during those four years seems to be lost on Rush and other conservative extremists wishing the same. Tangential issue: does Romney's withdrawal at this point actually make it harder for McCain to lock it up early? He and Huck had split a lot of the hard conservative vote. With Romney out, in theory Huck benefits. Probably not enough to overcome McCain however, enough to force the two to spend precious contributions. With the Democratic contributions greatly exceeding the Republican contributions, the Republican primary needs to end soon and Hillary and Obama need to keep duking it out.

Maybe McCain will take Romney as VP so that he attracts the Conservative Base with someone who will make up where he drops off to being a Liberal? I would not be surprised if he and some others wouldn't savor the notion of lining their pockets with a Hillary or Obama presidency. His show has grown consistantly over time and now has more listeners than he ever did.

February 7, 200818 yr Why do people consider Rom and Huck to be strong Conservatives? Based on their records as Governors, I do not. I agree. Any one of the last three "mainstream" Republican candidates has history that calls their "conservatism" into question. And the funny thing is, most of the self-identified conservatives I see bemoaning McCain's likely nomination have stood idly by while so-called authentic conservatives have nearly doubled the national debt.

I'm not sure if that makes sense.

Rush's show has thrived under Clinton and it thrived under Bush. It will continue to be successful regardless of who is elected this fall - unless the Fairness Doctrine is reimposed.
February 7, 200818 yr I have always wondered how much of Rush's audience is those on the other side of the debate wanting to listen to what outrageous things he says. I have a sneaky suspicion that 25-30% of his audience may be liberals.
