Has UK played its way onto the NCAA Bubble

Featured Replies

No way the get in unless they win the SEC I don't see them winning out and they could drop either the Arkansas and Ole Miss game. I don't think they beat Vandy,Tennessee, and Florida either. I see probably 4 more lossses in the future. I will say this recent win streak has the NIT absolutely thrillied!

No way? Not if they go undefeated the rest of the regular season and lose the SEC title game? That would make them 22-10.

I don't think thats likely, but they've already beaten the toughest team in the SEC.

Vandy and UT will both be tough at home, but Vandy is fading. UK took UF to OT @ UF. I think they've got a GREAT shot at Rupp. Especially if everyone is healthy (not far fetched since its 4 weeks away).

You are right that they could drop a game (ANY game, IMO), but there are lots of ways they get in w/o winning the automatic bid.

If they can get everyone healthy, they are flat out better than Vandy, Florida, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. While we've beaten UT already, they will be difficult in Knoxville. There's no reason why UK can't finish up 7-2 in the SEC and win one game in the tourney. I really think they can win the SEC tourney anyways, if (and that seems to be a big IF this season) they can get Meeks and Bradley healthy.

They will not be on the bubble until they get to about 18 wins.

Vandy's win is now looking less and less impressive unfortunately.

17 wins will not get them in.

Agreed. They need 18 wins.

I don't think the Cats can go into Tennessee and win. I do think all of the other games are winable, but they can only lose UT and one more.

If they do that they will be 18-12 and will have closed the regular season out going 11-2 down the stretch.

They will also go into the SEC tournament as the 2 seed from the east. Which gives them a least one if not two very winable games.

If they go 18-12 and win 2 in the SEC tournament, IMO they are a lock for a bid. If they only win one in the SEC tournament then they have a chance, but it is questionable. If they go 19-11 they should only need one win in the tournament.

If they go 6-3 down the stretch and then reach the SEC tournament championship game they'd be...

20-13

I think that would definitely have them on the bubble.

They're not there now, but they've at least positioned themselves to have a chance with a strong finish to the regular season (minimum of 6 W's) and a good showing in the SEC tournament. If it gets close, I think they'll get strong consideration because they struggled early with injuries, but they're obviously a far better team down the stretch. I think the committee will look hard at that.

I'm not sure what the committee thinks...but me personally, I'd be more likely to pick a team that struggled early and was playing strong down the stretch....fair or not. I'd want the teams playing the best in the tournament.

Really there's only one thing left to do......win the whole....freakin...thing.

Is Ashley Judd going to be the cardboard cutout?

Why wouldn't the NIT be excited by the current win streak?

NCAA should be too.

UK gets 18/19 wins or more, VERY good chance they get in.

$$$$$$$$ brought in by them being in the tournament. Fans travel well and the NCAA wants them in. If you don't think this (NCAA Tourney) is all about money, I have a bridge you may be interested in purchasing. 18/19 wins gets them in.

Even if Kentucky plays it way into the idea situation, i personally think they won't get in. Maybe the committee takes into consideration that UK will bring a slew of people. I just hope the turnovers per game don't hurt them:mad: I have never seen anything like it!!!!

Not enough good RPI wins and two very bad losses are what's keeping UK out of the NCAA tournament, not overall W-L, and I don't think that will change. Last 10 hasn't been the factor it's always touted as the last few years (Right GT?)

Look at Kentucky's wins by RPI:

Central Arkansas- 279

Liberty- 229

Texas Southern- 319

Stony Brook- 334

Tennessee Tech- 298

Florida International- 297

Vanderbilt- 13

Tennessee- 1

South Carolina- 87

Georgia- 136

Auburn- 165

Kentucky has TWO wins for the entire season in the top 125 of the RPI, and one of those is against a team considered widely to be fraudulent. UT is a good win, I think we all know without it we aren't having this conversation, and I wouldn't argue against it. But one good win and two triple digit RPI road wins don't get you dancing. Especially not with these losses:

Gardner Webb- 246

San Diego- 121

The SEC is 5th in conference RPI. There are five teams solidly in line ahead of UK (Tennessee, Mississippi, Mississippi St, Arkansas and Florida) I don't see how there's going to be 6 bids to the SEC.

Kentucky's next four are vs Alabama, @ Vanderbilt, @ LSU, and vs Georgia.

Kentucky ends their season vs Arkansas, vs Ole Miss, @ Tennessee, @ South Carolina, and vs Florida.

I think UK probably needs at least 3-1 in the next four and at least 4-1 in the last five to make the dance unless they carry the SEC tourney. There is no bubble for Kentucky, they're either convincingly in or totally out.

Looking at Kentucky's record vs top 100 RPI (3-7) and road record (2-4), there's little reason to believe that's going to happen. UK has played themselves into an NIT team, and I'm not trying to be snarky- that's an improvement from where they were a few weeks ago.

Technically if they finish 12-4 in the SEC they will finish 18-11. I still say 20 wins is the magic number we reach that we're in.

Injuries will be a consideration, but only if they get to around 18 wins will they start being considered.

If they are playing well down the stretch they will definitely be on the bubble.

Another thing to consider is just how down some of the major conferences are and many of those will be struggling to get 5-6 teams like the Big Ten which is awful and the ACC which is overrated, and the Big East which has no real dominant team and about 10 teams muddying the water.

Just keep plugging away.

Agreed with you, but they have won 3 games against top 125 teams.

They need to win the tourney, which I think is possible.

If UK ends up going 12-4 in the SEC I don't see how they could be left out. Has a 12 win team in a BCS (forgive the football reference) conference ever not gone dancing?

Technically if they finish 12-4 in the SEC they will finish 18-11. I still say 20 wins is the magic number we reach that we're in.

You are correct. And to think...I used to get A's in math.
