All of the discussions on this thread and the now closed "36th District Draw" thread make great cases for classification.

 

The majority don't want Bellevue and Dayton clogging up the regional tournament where they have no chance, and the majority want seeding where the "best" and in most cases "biggest" schools are nearly guaranteed the best opportunities to advance to the regional tournament. Classic rich get richer, and poor get poorer mentality.

 

With that said, I'm not necessarily a proponent of classification, BUT, if I were I would use all of the arguments previously stated on the two threads as solid evidence of the need for classification.

How does money have anything to do with it?

 

Many have posted on who would pay to see what matchups. I believe that is a clear call for the green to determine who plays.

This could be the worst solution to this problem, it would just cause a lot of confusion.

You've figured it out. All of us in favor of seeding are making money from it.

Seeding is great way to get the best teams there, but with a draw system in the region and in the state, you still are not getting the "great matchups". Also, with seeding, you have to play everyone twice in your district so in a 4 team district there you have 6 games on your schedule already. If you are a class "A" school this becomes a scheduling nightmare! With that regional "A" and state "A" tourney plus those six games it makes your scheduling alternatives pretty thin. So I would say draw, because I feel like it will let you schedule other opponents throughout the season to better prepare you for the postseason. Now, if they decide to seed the regional and state tourneys then by all means let's seed it all!

If someone can pull an upset, that's great! That's better than great, but the upset should take place on the basketball court, not through a lottery.

We've seeded in the 56th district since around 1980, and it's worked out fine for everyone involved. If anyone would have been against it because of school size it would have been us, Owsley County, but we were one of the schools in the 56th that were up front proposing it in the first place. We are the smallest school in our district (Powell and Estill have over 700 students, Lee 350, and Owsley 240...Wolfe used to be in our district and had 350), but we have held our own since 1980, winning 11 district championships in that span.

 

Our district games during the season always have good gates, and because they determine one's post-season matchups, they are more meaningful.

I've heard no complaints from the 56th.

The KSHAA needs to seed or draw across the entire Commonwealth. To make everyody happy, if everybody seeds, then two teams go to the Region, if everybody draws then only one team goes on to the region. This way only the best team or teams move on and the luck of the draw is taken out of the mix.

Not quite true! In the 35th District of Beechwood, CovCath, CovHoly Cross and CovHolmes they play each other only once each season (for seeding purposes) and rotate the home floor advantage!

Hey I feel where you're coming from. I've pretty much always agreed with the posts you make simply because they are usually very educated, well said and you're no homer. But while the draw is good for the small schools and will give the Dayton's and Bellevue's a chance to make the region by simply beating one another, isn't the point of the region tournament to have the best teams of that region in it?

 

Sure Dayton or Bellevue will remember the year they got to go to regions, they are also going to remember the 20, 30 or even 40 point loss that they suffer once they get there and play a Boone, Holmes, or Covcath though.

I venture to say that in the past ten years Dayton/Bellevue combined has not sent more than 3 teams to the regional total. While everyone else plays for more, and don't get me wrong whichever team is there is going to be playing hard, but its the fact that they are there. When you might be the first team from your school to make the region since the early '90s no one is going to discredit you for what you did once you got there, or like I said in another post, how you got there. When you are a Bellevue or Dayton the point that sticks out in your mind is that you were there.

I don't know much about the success of Dayton/Bellevue and how often they have been to the region so I'll go ahead and take your word for what its worth and put this subject to rest.
