You have a point but also look at it like this as well. If you're Dayton or Bellevue, would you rather play eachother to earn a chance to play in region or have to play a NCC or Highlands in the first round.

 

I'm going to throw this out once again. This year the top of the 36th is Dayton vs. Bellevue. Last year is was Dayton vs. Highlands. Dayton fell 3 points short of the upset. While I'm sure that those boys would have felt great about beating Highlands, the point is that they got to the regional, not that they beat Highlands to get there. 10 years from now the team that wins that Dayton Bellevue game is going to say they were on a team that made regional and no one is going to say "Well who did you beat to get there?"

About the only reason ever stated for a draw is that is give the "smaller schools a better chance to advance." Sorry, but the purpose of the tournament is to have the best teams advance to region, not eliminate one another in early rounds.

Been in one of those small schools myself and we always knew who we DIDN'T want to draw. You can bet that come next week there will be many kids praying they don't draw certain teams. It's part of what makes KY basketball special.

The 39th used to be Mason Co, Maysville, St Pat, Fleming Co and Tollesboro. Two real good teams and three that were average and about equal. You know the two that no one wanted to draw and the other two you knew you had a chance against.

 

Before Mason Co we had Minerva, Maysville, Tollesboro, Fleming Co ,Mayslick, St Pat and Orangeburg. Back then ,you sure didn't want Maysville and most of the time Fleming Co. We had 7 teams in our district.:ylsuper:

If I'm Dayton or Bellevue I would rather play each other for a shot at regional but if you check the 36th district draw thread there is a lot negative being said about that theory. Apparently they shouldn't do what is best for their school and vote to draw, but rather vote to seed because it benefits everyone else better... I like the draw but I don't want people to think that schools that maybe drew well but would've been a lower seed are just wanting to walk into the regional... They want a good draw but aren't afraid to play the other schools...

Hey I feel where you're coming from. I've pretty much always agreed with the posts you make simply because they are usually very educated, well said and you're no homer. But while the draw is good for the small schools and will give the Dayton's and Bellevue's a chance to make the region by simply beating one another, isn't the point of the region tournament to have the best teams of that region in it?

 

Sure Dayton or Bellevue will remember the year they got to go to regions, they are also going to remember the 20, 30 or even 40 point loss that they suffer once they get there and play a Boone, Holmes, or Covcath though.

 

Nobody here is saying that they are scared of the big teams because if you come in to a game thinking that, well you're probably going to be run out of the gym by halftime. I'm simply stating that it's really not right that teams who have played tougher schedules and won all year don't get rewarded for it because of a draw.

 

What about this scenario. The 33rd and 35th decide to draw as well. Boone and St Henry meet in the first round and Holmes in Covcath meet in the first round. Now 3 of the top teams in nky are looking at their season potentially ending. All I'm saying is the 9th region tournament should be for the best teams who have EARNED a right to be there. Not a team who won one game, has a losing record and got the luck of the draw.

They also typically have greater attendance at their games thus equaling more money. I still say draw and give the small schools some hope. Need to play each team in the district twice to get a true seed.

What about the kids who should have been seeded 2nd?

 

If you think your team is inferior, you vote to draw so that you can screw a better team from advancing.

Who is protecting the rights of the strong? The kids who go to bigger schools shouldn't be penalized because of this.

 

The KHSAA should mandate that all districts are seeded so the spirit of competition is what it should be - COMPETITIVE. Not watered down for the poor wittle itty bitty schools to have the best chance, but a fiercely competitive contest where the weak go home and the strong survive.

 

If someone can pull an upset, that's great! That's better than great, but the upset should take place on the basketball court, not through a lottery.

You don't rank them. You play a district schedule to determine the seeding.

Regionals and state are not seeded. I see no reason why districts should be seeded except the almighty dollar. You say make the season worth something, they all are, by making their team better prepared for post season. That is what it's all about.
