Exactly what I was thinking. While some may think it's nice for the "little guys" to get a shot, when you really think about it, at the end of the year everyone wants to see the best teams. Not someone who got a chance because of luck of the draw.

 

I definetly feel for both NCC and Highlands. Both have had good seasons, Highlands especially and its a shame one won't get a chance to prove themselves at Regionals.

 

Why should a loser in the districts expect a chance to prove themselves at Regionals?

There is nothing wrong with a draw, but I am so worn out hearing the talk about how Dayton and Bellevue have it so easy and NC and Highlands got screwed I almost wish they did seed. Anything can happen if you have a team that isn't scared and isn't beaten by the name on the jersey...

 

You have a point but also look at it like this as well. If you're Dayton or Bellevue, would you rather play eachother to earn a chance to play in region or have to play a NCC or Highlands in the first round.

Well think about this...Holmes has lost the past 3 district championships but went on to win the region 2 out of those 3 years and advanced to the state semis last year doing it.

 

All I'm saying is Highlands and NCC are obviously the top 2 teams in their district. By doing a blind draw they are forced to play eachother in the first round rather than meeting in the championship and both moving on to the regional tournament. Instead we have a scenario where either Bellevue or Dayton ( the bottom two teams in their district)will win one game against eachother and move on to the region and get blown out by 20 or 30 points.

 

It is just better for competition at the end of the year. Would you rather see a Holmes vs Bellevue game? or a Holmes vs NCC?

 

Covcath vs Dayton? or Covcath vs Highlands?

I don't think it's strange, just because of semantics. It is possible to get a legitimate seeding based on actual head-to-head competition within the district.

To seed at the regional and state level would involve polls/opinion rather than actual competition. I don't think anyone wants Cantrell or Litkinhouse making those types of decision.

The example you mention is just one of many questionable scenarios.

Seed, we always seed in the 56th and it makes the season games so much better. For some reason a team that hasn't won a distric game still plays hard and tries to win because if they do it may make a difference come end of season.

Exactly...there's no clear way to seed at the sweet 16. Seed for districts and leave region the way it is and the sweet 16.

I think drawing for the district is best for the smaller schools , maybe drawing another small school or a weaker team and having a chance to get to the region and getting a share of the tournament's money which is real inportant to a small school.(I know cause I've been there.) Seeds make a better regional tournament by having the better teams there. Some districts have powerhouses and all the other teams are small schools that really don't have a chance against them. The example I'm talking about is the 39th district. Mason Co is the powerhouse in the district and probably always will be. Mason Co doesn't want to play each team in the district twice to establish a seed and the other teams doesn't want to play them. It would be a waste of time of all concerned and powerhouses need to play a tough schedule to get better. Theres pros and cons to both.

Why not play 1 game per year, the Seeded and then rotate to home/away each year.

 

Upsets will happen and part of what makes any sport great but at the same time, any Regional tournament will be stronger/balanced, when Districts have the opportunity to send 2 of their best teams.

If I'm Dayton or Bellevue I would rather play each other for a shot at regional but if you check the 36th district draw thread there is a lot negative being said about that theory. Apparently they shouldn't do what is best for their school and vote to draw, but rather vote to seed because it benefits everyone else better... I like the draw but I don't want people to think that schools that maybe drew well but would've been a lower seed are just wanting to walk into the regional... They want a good draw but aren't afraid to play the other schools...
