Can UK make it two years in row vs. UL

Featured Replies

No problem, I'm a huge UK fan but I like UL a lot--except for one game a year. I really do feel that, while out of the 2 offenses and defenses UK has the most "sure thing" (if there is such a thing) on defense since they return so much, it isn't enough to have them favored at UL in the opening game. I feel like pretty much anything can happen--from a blowout by either team to a game decided on the last play, but that since it is at UL's place that they should be favored. Either way it is way to early to speculate much on what'll happen.

It's never too early, that is half the fun. People are talking about UK/UL in basketball season, we have come a long way.

Statistically and historically speaking, UK/UL fans really have nothing to gloat over. Both programs are traditionally terrible with a lot more down times than high.

I think most UK fans will admit the football program has had alot more bad than good.

I disagree, the Cards defense has no returning linebackers with starting experience and they are on the small side. Both strong safeties are gone, DE Cox is gone,DT Williams is gone, Peanut is gone, the corners could not cover anyone, a new staff & scheme, they will struggle again IMO.

Wow I didn't know they lost that much.

The defensive lineup for Louisville does not at all look like it will be better, IMO. HOWEVER, there's an extremely key ingredient that was the cause of 90% of the problems for UofL last year, according to my sources... that problem was that the DC made a decision for the defensive linemen to go man on and power their way into the backfield as opposed to shooting the gaps. The linemen had been adjusted the year before to shooting the gaps (look at the amazing stats of those such as Okoye and Dumerville before him), and this new style was getting NOWHERE, as seen by the horrendous defense last year. If the linemen don't put pressure on the quarterback, the quarterback has all day to either find a nice path to run or pass to an reciever who eventually will get open even if for a moment (many times that was the case last year... it seemed like every QB had their best game against us). This is fundamental stuff that nobody seems to be taking into account. Now, with a new defensive coordinater, I should HOPE that things change, fundamentally, for the better. Of course last year proved just how intangible hope can be.

Louisville WILL struggle... but as bad as they did last year? That depends on the off season.

Offensively I think UofL will still be dangerous to pretty much any opponent. Cantwell has already proven himself, and the backs we have are not nearly my biggest concern. I'm not expecting superstardom from the Cards, but if a team is not ready for them then the points should keep on coming.

Funny that a guy who loves a HIGH SCHOOL that's success is dictated by great coaching, doubts a defense that now has proven SOLID coaches. Your point has now been deemed invalid with your Blue Blockers stepping forward. You are naive if you think that U of L's defense won't be markedly better in game 1.

I know many are excited about English coming in at D-Coordinator, but assuming WVU and S. Florida are some of the better teams in the Big East, they both run spread offenses which Michigan (with English at the helm) really struggled to stop with a lot more talent than what UL has.

Did better than OK in his last hurrah with UM.

Didn't you say UofL's defense was going to be better last year too?

Why ream the guy for making valid arguments? UofL is losing a bunch of players and dealing with a new coaching staff. Perfectly reasonable to think they may struggle. Especially in the first game.

I am anti-uk but I am so sick of these UL fans acting like UL is going to be great this year. Last year you where suppose to be national champ contenders right? How did that end up? Stop talking about your PITIFUL defense that gave up 450+ yards to Syracuse. The offense will be a huge ? mark too.

If UL played in the SEC like kentucky they would have one 3 games last year.

Thats including their 1st two really tough games last year.

450+ to Syracuse. Enough said. :sssh:

UL may have great coaches but they still need something to work with and they don't.

Maybe better than OK in comparison to previous game against the spread. They still gave up 35 points.

The two that stand out to me are tOSU and I-AA App. State. Two teams the Wolverines struggled against.

I think someone is wearing red glasses. He did not think UL was going to have a drop off last year after losing Petrino either.

UL may have great coaches but they still need something to work with and they don't.

GREAT POINT!:ylsuper:

Find me ONE, just one person that said UL was going to be great next year...

Deuce is right...we said we were going to be better than last year.
