February 1, 200818 yr :thumb: Good post and you make some very good, sensible points. I seem to remember a U.L. team from a year ago that was favored and should have been. We all witnessed what happened with that. I'm not saying UK can't win. There are questions on both sides. I just think U of L should and will be favored in next year's game. Historically, UK hasn't been a program that continues it's success...when they have a nice group of talent, they usually get a couple of solid years out of them and when they move on the program returns to it's traditional status. Until they prove they can replace a successful departing group, the skepticism will be there and is warranted. I think Brooks and his staff have a better plan in place than what's been there in the past, so I don't expect UK to collapse like they have in the past. But, they do have to replace one of the best QB's in school history, and a great trio of pass catchers (Burton, Johnson, and Tamme)...they have questions. And, I expect there will be some growing pains with that many new starters on offense.
February 1, 200818 yr I totally disagree with points 1,2,&3. #1 is a fact...there is nothing to disagree with.
February 1, 200818 yr 1. UL played their very best game of the year against UK IMO. 2. UK returns as much or more on offense this year than last IMO. Well the blue is definitely showing through, because your #1 is 100% incorrect....
February 1, 200818 yr How can anyone say that UK returns more on offense then last year? They lose their QB, starting RB, TE and 2 recievers. And I'm not sure what the status of linemen is.

February 1, 200818 yr As does UL right? The key difference between the two offenses is proven depth. I honestly don't know what UK has coming in so I'm not going to judge, but UofL has "best backup QB in the nation" with Cantwell, and several good (or potentially good) runningbacks and recievers (Powell, Brock "The Freakin Man" Bolen [don't know if that's his nickname among other people but it sure is for me... edited], Stripling, and Anderson at RB's, and Spillman, Beaumont, and Long at receivers, just to name a few). The big question mark for the offense for UofL is the line... I know we're losing some good big men in the trenches.
February 1, 200818 yr Besides the QB isn't the line the key? On the high school level we almost always have a ton of very good skill kids, but it's when we have a good group of linemen we have our most sucess. I sure hope Hunter's as good as you all think he is or you're in for another dissapointing season.

How can UK return more on offense for 2008: QB- return Pulley the QB who beat out Woodson for the starting job 2 years ago and is as fast as anyone on the team. RB- return Dixon,Smith,Locke,Allen,Conner TE- return 6'6"- 250lb. 4.6 TC Drake and Mo Grintner 6'3" 255lb. 4.5 Chris Goode 6'4" 245 4.6 Ross Bogue 6'5" 245 WR- return Dicky Lyons, Demoreo Ford along with 6'4" Kyrus Lanxter 4.5 and the redshirt frosh from Georgia who runs a 4.4 Anthony Mosley who burned everyone last year while playing with the scout team. OL- returns Gary williams,Zipp Duncan,Christian Johnson,Justin Jefferies,James Alexander, and Jorge Gonzalez all have starting experience. Not to mention any redshirt, greyshirt or JUCO or frosh. who may step up! That's a whole lot coming back!

I'm sure they've got guys they like and guys with potential...however, expecting that many first time starters, several of whom have little to no real game experience on the college level, to jump right in and be better than the guys that departed is optimistic to put it mildly. Surely you can understand why some of us might prefer to wait and see.

February 1, 200818 yr This time last year nobody knew who guys like Stevie Johnson or Locke was. Guys will step up this year and shine as well. I hope you're right. The problem is, Locke was a pleasant surprise, but he wasn't a guy they were counting on when the season started. We had Little and Dixon. Johnson was the same...Burton, Lyons and Tamme were there, so Johnson's emergence was a nice surprise. This time around, there are no proven guys to take the pressure off the newcomers...these guys will have to step in immediately and be ready to contribute and be "the man" so to speak. I hope they do. At the least, I think it will take some time for the new starters to get comfortable and develop some game chemistry. Plus, they'll likely be a steeper learning curve for the younger guys. The examples you cited were under much different circumstances, IMO.
