January 24, 200818 yr How many coaches has UL changed this year? I know and agree changes needed to be made, but with the changes won't it pretty much be like starting all over again?
January 24, 200818 yr BTW...UL added a cornerbacks coach yesterday...a former Green Bay Packers defensive coach. So...another reason to think that UL's defense will be better this year than last. I guess you mean Lewis who according to UL's website spent the past two seasons "breaking down game film and working with the playbook?" He's Sherman Lewis son and was hired for that reason. Other than that he coached defensive backs at Ball State and Bucknell. I don't think he'll be a great difference maker.
January 24, 200818 yr I don't know why I bother defending UL, and believing in them. I must just be a complete idiot! Shoot! We all know that UK is lightyears ahead of us in football. Oh well, at least we have basketball. Look, a question was asked, and UL fans have said why they think UL can win. So far, only a couple of posts by UK posters have given objective reasons why they think UK will win. Most are pot-shots at UL. As to Lewis spending the past two seasons breaking down game film and working with the playbook...the actual statement is Lewis, 31, was the defensive quality control coach for the Green Bay Packers for the past two seasons. His duties include breaking down opponents' game film and organizing the playbook. And, given Green Bay's success, I'd say he did a very fine job, whatever his duties. But...I guess I should just disregard any trust I have in the UL program, because obviously, the same people who were calling for Rich Brooks' head a couple of years ago know more about football than anyone on staff in the UL football program.

I didn't say that you shouldn't trust the UL program. If you read my earlier comments I think UL will be favored and should win at home. As for Lewis bio his duties were exactly what I said they were. He was a quality control coach, not a position coach and his duties were administrative. He was only in that position because of his father--not because he's such a great defensive mind. I don't think UK is ahead of UL in football--however until Kragthorpe shows more than what he did this past season I think that UL's lead has been negated. Was 2007 an abberation? It would be just as foolish for UL fans to assume that it was as it is for UK fans to assume that it will be the norm. There's a lot of questions concerning both teams next season. If you want to look at it objectively both teams lose their quarterbacks and the majority of their receivers so I think both offenses are questionable. On paper UK returns the better defense but UL now has a different coordinator so they are essentially an unknown. If you go by what either team has returning UK would get a slight nod because their defense was better last season and they return enough players to think that they'll continue to improve. However, I think that UL's offense is in better hands with Cantwell than any of UK's options at quarterback for now. I'm willing to give their new DC the benefit of the doubt and assume that they will improve--that coupled with the home field advantage makes me think UL will be favored and should win next season, but I look for a very competative game.
January 24, 200818 yr I guess one would've had to know what he is talking about, as I do. U of L was "supposed" to be great this past year. They had extenuating circumstances that prevented them from doing so. Those are now long gone, the future is very bright in the 'Ville. If one doesn't care for Louisville, I hope that they appreciated this past season, as it looks to be much more of an anomoly than SOP. As a UK fan, what gives you the supreme confidence that you are having already? A blown coverage to squeak out a win on your home field. Keep in mind, the man that threw that ball, and the man that caught it are now gone. And so is the man who threw for 360 yds and the majority of the ones who caught them.. Plus, at the time, UL was ranked as a Top 10 team and the UK win was considered a pretty big upset..I also believe the future is very bright for the Blue and White.. By the way, I hope UL wins every game next year except for 1..
January 24, 200818 yr Yes, UK can make it two in a row. It should be another great game. Hopefully, at night, since it is being played on August 30.
January 24, 200818 yr I want to apologize for my earlier rant....still sleepy, not enough coffee, plain bad mood....not a reason to take it out on UK fans. So, my sincere apologies. For the record though, while UL definitely has a lot of questions to answer defensively, I feel that the UL fans responding in this thread have been objective, and have offered valid reasons why they feel that UL may have a competitive chance in the UK game next year. As I stated much earlier in the thread with regard to the defense, I agree that UK most likely will have a better defense than UL, especially looking at it now without any "bodies" out there. Why I feel that UK fans should not overestimate: Even with one of the worst defenses in the NCAA last year, Louisville managed to win some games. Granted, they lost a lot they shouldn't have. However, you can't "out offense" in football, unless you have at least an average defense. I absolutely, honestly, 100% believe that we can go nowhere but up in the defensive categories. Offensively, I (again) feel that Hunter Cantwell has the following things edging out whomever may be in line @ UK (as I understand no one knows): Hunter has experience. Call it what you want: minimal, limited, etc...but it is experience. We know that some changes will be made offensively, but I think we can all expect that we'll have a pretty familiar offense. Hunter knows that offense. Granted they're message board comments, but it seem UK fans think there will be changes in the UK offensive strategies because of the changing of guard. My question is, will Brooks decide on the offense, and pick the QB that fits? Will they go with a new offense and pick the other guy? Will they go with the two QB deal, which would apparenly confuse the defense, but could also potentially be confusing for newbie receivers and TE's? On the lines, UK has the edge. I just feel strongly that UL will not only be competitive, but will surprise many. JUST MY OPINION.

January 24, 200818 yr Man, Im gone for a while, and already I see some rookies trying to make a splash.... Its going to be fun getting back in the swing of things.... As for the topic at hand, it is ridiculously early to be assuming that UK is going to beat UL again, or vice versa. Let's wait till after spring football before we start making bold predictions, that will inevitably come back to haunt us.
January 25, 200818 yr Noted. I guess its too early to get a rise out of you, which is all I was trying to do.
