January 22, 200818 yr Corection Woodson. And what does talking to coach at Trinity have to do with The University of Louisville? Nothing...but he is the strength and conditioning coach @ Trinity, and I think you'll find everyone agrees he plays an integral part in their success. Look, I'm not knocking UK. I just think that UL has a very high potential to be much improved over last year. Coupled with the fact that I think (just my opinion) that UK will be struggling to find itself offensively in the first game, gives me reason to believe UL will have a really good chance to beat UK this year.

The only thing that kept UL in games this year was their offense. With the same deffense and a new offense give me some reasons how they will improve.

It's not the same defense, I wish you could understand that. The offense showed what it can do in the second half of the Rutgers game. U of L will be fine this year. What does fine mean? I would say 8-4 ish......at this point I do look for UK to be one of the wins. U of L's defense played much better at the end of the season, that's a great building block onto this season.
January 22, 200818 yr Author UK should be running the same stuff, but they could impliment a few other tools that could help them. Like a running QB, or a 2 QB system which we all know how hard is to stop.

Weren't they supposed to great last year and compete for a national title? What happened to that? They lost to syracuse and didnt even make a bowl game. That deffense in the last three games gave up 134 points. 38 to WV, 55 to USF, and 38 to Rutgers. How did they play better at the end of the year?

How did they play better at the end of the year? I guess one would've had to know what he is talking about, as I do. U of L was "supposed" to be great this past year. They had extenuating circumstances that prevented them from doing so. Those are now long gone, the future is very bright in the 'Ville. If one doesn't care for Louisville, I hope that they appreciated this past season, as it looks to be much more of an anomoly than SOP. As a UK fan, what gives you the supreme confidence that you are having already? A blown coverage to squeak out a win on your home field. Keep in mind, the man that threw that ball, and the man that caught it are now gone.

January 22, 200818 yr Okay. What about that improving UL deffense though? The secondary got older, the DL looks to be shoring up its weaknesses. The LB position is a question mark. But with a man that has already been named DC of the year in the NCAA, I think they are in good hands. It wouldn't take a bunch for them to move up 30 - 40 spots in the defensive rankings, and if they did that this past year, they likely would've won 10 games or more.
January 22, 200818 yr UK will have a big advantage on both lines and that is where the game will be won for the Cats. And I give UK a big edge in the backfield!! WR and QB are the only real question marks for UK. Really look for big improvments from UK in all other areas.

January 22, 200818 yr Last year UK was supposed to get beat worse than the year before, so I think I like our chances this year. UL is basically starting over on defense with a new DC and UK starting over at QB. UK's defense should be much improved as they did get better as the year went on. I don't think Louisville will be presesason top 10, so I'll take the Wildcats in this one.
January 22, 200818 yr UK hasn't run the spread the way they will with Pulley. If he is the starter, you will have a ton of new faces trying to run an unfamiliar system. This is a distinct disadvantage because UofL will be doing the same things with a QB that has more experience than Pulley playing the position. Both teams will have their plans for week 1, but UK could get some bugs out against a live opponent not as talented as UofL if they had them later in the season. I guess it's all a matter of opinion but I feel different. I would rather start the season with a new offense than a new defense. I see UL becoming a very solid team with a solid defense by years end and I don't think theres any question they'll score points. I think UK's best chance to beat the them will be the first game of the season when they might be ironing out a few kinks in the defense, the hope is UK might be able to throw some things at them they haven't seen or prepared for...

I think defense comes around before offense. This has been my experience both as a player and coach. Offense is so timing oriented that game reps are the only way to sure up what game timing will be like for an offense. I see your point, though and it is a good one. Agree to disagree; good arguement. :thumb:
