Joker Phillips to follow Rich Brooks

Featured Replies

Great news... so that mean UK shouldnt skip a beat when Brooks leaves.

Once again when Brooks does retire, we don't know where we will be at that time. Right now we are doing good, but what happens say if we start to struggle a little bit, and maybe miss out on making a bowl. Would you all still be happy with hiring someone from a staff that is struggling, and not even really looking to go elsewhere for a coach to bring in a new energy. I don't think we should settle on already, on having a coach who has no head coaching experience, and was never even a offensive coordinator until we gave him the job. Right now it looks great since we are doing good, but that don't mean we will still be in this position when Brooks retires. So as I have said I just not a big fan of that at the moment...

Great news, but article says Morris is 25-35???

I guess I just assumed that his record was better than that because of his last two seasons, it's amazing how a little winning changes people's opinions!

I think it's a good move for multiple reasons.

Congrats to Joker.

Not that I do not think Joker will not be a good head coach one of these days (and possibly at UK), but I am just not a fan of promoting within in college sports.

Great news. I think Phillips will do a great job, I just hope the fans treat him better than Tubby was treated.

What are you suggesting?

What if Brooks stays around 5 more seasons. Will Joker want to wait that long. Lets say a team like a Ole Miss came calling? Would he leave?

Purdue did the same thing with Tiller and Hope. A new trend I guess. Never heard of it until Florida State did this year.

Same thing happened with the Suttons at OK State and Bob Knights son will take his place at TX Tech when he goes......

I think this is a great move by UK. Seems like Joker was starting to get some attention from other schools, and I'd hate to see him leave.

I look for Brooks to stay 1 more year with UK letting him out of the final 2 years. I think this has been in the works a little longer than anyone really knows. I myself think this is a great move on UK's part. Joker has made himself known as a good recruiter and building relationships with players. The kids from Tenn. that just resolidified his committment to UK. This Kid is 3 or 4 star recruit if I am not mistaken. He has also done a good job about getting into the Cincy area getting recruits from there. As to where UK will be when he takes over we will have to wait and see. I for one am hoping that we can maintain a competitive team for now on but chances are we will have a breakdown a few times but with the right people it can be worked out. Joker is a very good starting point and a solid cornerstone to start a new era with.

I think this is a good move. Someone that is already in the system, plus it helps in the recruiting because kids know that Joker could take over while they are there.

What are you suggesting?

What am I suggesting? If you were one of the fans that bad mouthed Tubby, I suggest you treat Joker better.

Re-read your first post. Brooks, not Morris.

I think that is the strategy. Heck, we've tried everything else with this program, let's try long term stability.
