As stated in the first thread about the BC job vacancy 3 weeks ago (prior to the whole Guy Morris thing), Larry French is at the top of my wish list. Yes we will give him the full support of the administration, fans, and community. I can't say that we are spoiled brats, we have been slapped back into reality under Pardue's watch. There was so may kids who quit, or didn't go out because of the coach. I just feel coach French is the perfect guy to restore respectability to our program. I don't know about other Rebel fans, but to expect the kind of success that Coach Smith had is absurd. Most of us realize how magical of a run that was.

 

So if you're reading coach French, come on over and you will be accepted and loved by about 25,000 people at least. Football is "King" in TitleTown and we're not afraid to admit it.

In reading Coach French's comments in the Advocate Messenger last week he was quoted as saying "I am interested in that position and think it would be a good coaching staff to inherit. I think we could get some things done," he said (Friday, January 18th article).

 

So my question is to the Rebel faithful... If Coach French takes the job and keeps all of the assistant coaches, do you see that as a pro or con?

Whoever goes there needs to know nothing short of 5 straight championships will satisfy the beast that Chuck Smith created.

 

In my opinion, whoever wants to take the Boyle County job should talk to Coach Pardue and get his honest opinion of the difficulty in keeping the monster happy (spoiled fan base?) after those 5 straight titles. I think some of the BC contingent are out of control with their expectations and this is going to be a problem going forward.

 

 

I Disagree 100%. IMO this can be no farther from the truth. I think the Rebel faithful will agree with me that all we want is to "contend for a title". We know what happened in the past, and would not expect who ever the next coach is to repeat what Smith did. We.....the fans are not the monsters or beast that people think we are. We (fans) are no different than Trinity, Highlands, St. X, Danville, Belfry, Russell, or any other fans.

Does anyone have any actual figures of what Lincoln pays for the HC and assistants? How does that compare to Boyle?

I liked Chris and he will be missed greatly! All the Rebel people that I know, are not upset with Chris Perdue because he didn't win a state championship.

If you are referring to my school, you are referring to me. I could care less if the shoe fits or not. I can tell you that the grumbling with the Rebel fans has nothing to do with not winning a state championship as you quoted. As I said you are wrong.

As for intensity, I don't think it is now what it was in the 90's when Boyle's program began to rise and compete with Danville in the playoffs for the right to go on. There were some pretty intense and close games between the two in AA play around '94 to '97.

Jay Reynold's, a long time assistant coach at Danville played at Boyle County. I think the rivalry now is a healthy one. In the mid to late 90's it began to get ugly in many ways.

I agree the rivalry didn't step up until Chuck Smith came to Boyle and in 1996 Boyle beat Danville 12-6 I think in the second round, which made it Boyle's first win over Danville since 1979. The emerged Boyle's success while Smith was there and has carried on since.

 

Close games are not a rivalry until its a back and forth with both teams winning one here and there.

 

I will close with this, both programs have produced many talented players and coaches. I'm proud to live in the community where football is so great. :ylsuper:

Disagree....Taking the job means you are willing to accept the challenge. Though Clay played at Danville doesnt mean he wouldnt do everything to keep Boyle as a contender. Smith had a great run of talent and championships and left at a great time. The question is to take on someone at the end of a "Great career" (I played for him) or someone who is at the beginning of a "great career."
