Top 10 Players in 9th Region

Featured Replies

These are fair statements as Henderson seems to play above the rim and Sorrell plays a lot outside the arc and usually between 10-22 feet from the basket. Henderson is the quintessential skywalker who can tip balls in, post you up and score basically on quickness and pure athleticism.

Sorrell seems to be a scorer and who cares if he has to throw up 24 shots a game to get his 22. Coming off of screens and creating shots is impressive just as watching Henderson fly around the basket. They are both different offensively but both very affective. The Defense goes to Henderson by far so that is what makes him probably the best player. He is purely a shutdown guy and he shut down Sorrell in their matchup.

As far as Highlands and their schedule I wont say HC's has been a little tougher but the Birds have played some very good teams from both NKY and downstate and actually came out victors instead of losers against most. McGraw at full strength is also just as good as anyone in the 9th Region. His passing capabilities are phenominal, he gets to the rim with quickness, is as strong as Henderson and shoots a nice ball. His defense has to be just as physical and ferocious as Henderson but I think Henderson's leaping ability might have the edge there. All 3 kids we are talking about here are very good players and should all be congratulated for having great seasons so far.

:thumb: Thank you...very well put. Always nice to here from those who actually know the score.

Henderson is by far the best player Holmes has.

He's not the best, or even second best player in the region though, and if exclamation points mean something to you, then here's three!!!

Henderson is easily the best player in the region. It seems as if you don't like the kid or you have something against him, not sure. Oh, and if I were you I would stop arguing that Sorrell should be in the top 3. I'm sure you saw or heard about him last night against Beechwood. Romes shut him down.:sssh: The reason Arrez doesn't score more is because they have a complete team. He could score at will if he wanted to. That is HC's downfall. Sorrell is pretty much there only source of points and when he gets shut down, especially by a D-III school, then who knows what's gonna happen down the stretch.

I tried explaining this, but some just don't get it.

Being at the game last night, I too, felt like Beechwood pretty much shut Sorrell down. Then I realize he got 19 points, 14 rebounds & 3 assists all the while being the total focus of Beechwood's defense. 7/16 FG, 3/4 3P & 2/2 FT.

This really affirms how good he really is, when he puts up numbers any other player in the region can only dream of, and we think he was "shut down".

You are correct, the rest of the HC team MUST score along with Sorrell & Giwa or they will be beaten.

Yes, he put up somewhat decent numbers, but he couldn't score in halfcourt offense to save his life. All of his points came off transition and wide open shots. When Romes was out of the game was when he got more than half of his points. How can he expect to score at the next level if he can't do it with a defender on him?

Don't assume that this is an Iverson-type situation. If anything, I'd argue Cory needs to be a little more selfish. He simply doesn't force shots. He shot 21 times and put up 37 against CCH. He had an off night and probably shot about 15 times against BW and put up 19.

I don't recall any points coming off transition. The only transition points scored by HC (not many) were scored by Giwa and maybe one basket by Roenker.

No player in NKY will score many points if his defender doesn't have to worry about playing help defense.

Somewhat good??? 19 points and 14 rebounds is just "somewhat good"? I bet you cant name 1 player in the 9th that has had that type of game this season and have someone say "he had a somewhat good game". I dont know what you expect Sorrell to do, i guess some fans expect 30 and 20 out of him. Give the kid some credit, he played a great game and is definantly a top 3 player in the region.

So let me get this right. Are there only two players in the region who can guard Sorrell? Henderson of Holmes and Romes of Beechwood....Romes didn't have Henderson for most of the second quarter because he was sitting. I belive Sorrell had more than 10 in the second quarter.

However Romes did guard Sorrell the entire second half...how many did Sorrell have in the second half?

I don't think Sorrell looked like the best player in the region, but I also think that everyone besides Giwa and Sorrell for HC simply looked lost on the offensive end... JMO...

I agree. How many guys that didn't go to Heritage or somewhere that plays a small school schedule have averaged 19 and 10 the last 15 years in this region?

I'm guessing he's scored more than his fair share of points in the half court offense this year.

At the next level he's going to be a 6'4 shooting guard or small forward and he'll get stronger. I'm guessing that Gaigai scores a lot of points in the next 3 years and that people won't focus all of their attention on Sorrell like they do now. I think he can score at NKU. He had what some people are calling an off night and dropped 19.

Blake Bryan has to be mentioned in one of the top players. He is the only change to the "much improved" Villa team. Their avg. 30 pts more and already have more wins then all of last year. And another reason Stephen Love scores alot of his points.

The only thing that Blake Bryan has done all year is take the ball away from Villa's best player, Stephen Love.

In addition to up and coming players:

1.) Blake Bryan - point guard on much improved Villa Madonna team. Great scorer and hard to stop.

Best player you've never heard of:

1.) Brian Hamilton - also a Villa Madonna player. Great rebounder, defender and can put it in the basket when he needs to.

He was basically irrelevant against Beechwood, did he even have any rebounds, who did he guard?

We will see you wins POY....it will be Henderson!!!!

Which POY award are you referring to? The Enquirer awards POY's to one player in each of the three divisions, I believe. It's a pretty good chance both Sorrell and Henderson will get those, since Holmes and Holy Cross are in different divisions (Although obviously Greg McGraw would have to enter into the mix - when he's not hurt, he makes a strong argument against Henderson or Sorrell).

If you're referring to the POY awarded by the KHSAA at the state tournament, the team's success is, consciously or not, a factor in who wins that. Holy Cross's record, and the fact that they are not even going to get out of the district, probably eliminate Sorrell from that POY award.
