Top 10 Players in 9th Region

Eta - here's the one problem I see with your logic re: Sorrell. You say he has no help besides one player. If that's true, wouldn't that make it that much harder to score since everyone in the stands knows that Sorrell is "the man?" Yet despite trick defenses and getting the best defender, he still lights it up.

Secondly, the implication that some make that he scores because he's the only scorer would seem to indicate he shoots a lot. I've said before that he probably passes up opportunities because in his mind someone else has a higher chance of scoring. If this were an "Iverson-type situation", I would expect his PPG to be high but his FG% to be low. My guess is that his FG% is very high.

So we've got a kid that is the only option (and everyone defends HC that way) and he shoots a high % and scores a lot of points. That sounds pretty strong and legit to me . I'm not sure how many players could swap teams and put up Sorrell's numbers.

I'd also ask you to reconsider your shot at the other boys on the floor. Unnecessary.

I understand where you're coming from. I never once said Sorrell wasn't a very good player and one of the best in the region. My argument simply is that I feel those saying he is head and shoulders above the rest need to take a look at McGraw and Henderson as well. All three are very good players and that shows as Henderson and Sorrell both are getting recruited by NKU.

My point is that While Sorrell is probably the best offensive player, he isn't the best ALL AROUND player. Both Mcgraw and Henderson are more complete players. They play the best man to man defense in the area while averaging 18 and 19 a game. Aren't there two facets to a game, offense and defense?

As far as shooting %...

Sorrell 54% (3 pt 38% on 66 shots)

Henderson 55% (3 pt 34% on 76 shots)

Once again, Sorrell is probably be the best offensive player in nky. But overall Henderson and Mcgraw are the better two.

Don't know where you got your numbers, but Sorrell has attempted over 100 threes and is hitting 43.5%. 54% FG is accurate.

The stats for 3's were from nky.com and were for 16 games, not all 22.

Henderson has only played in a few games this year where he played more than 3 quarters. Sorrell has played the full game in probably 90 percent of HC's games.

One last thing... Mcgraw has been held to single digits just 3 times year and all three he didn't play a full game. Mcgraw averages 19 ppg and that has come without the help of a D1 player on the floor the majority of the season. Mcgraw has just 50 turnovers in 16 games tp Sorrell's 55 in 15 games.

I think I rest my case.

Are we not talking about the player of the year and not the best player? Both Henderson and Sorrell will probably be players of the year in their division. McGraw might be the best player but in my opinion won't get or deserve player of the year because he's missed so many games.

Dude... He held your guy to 6... His team is 25-2... I don't really see your arguement...

You can't go by a one game head on head match up. Henderson had a lot of help on defense that Sorrell does not. Remember Dolleman dominated Neltner in a game their senior year and Neltner won Mr. Basketball.

He hasn't missed a ton of games. I'm thinking less than 7?? BTW my vote goes to Greg. :thumb:

And I guess you wanted to be a smart guy.

Nice response!:thumb:

In a previous post someone suggested that it is the POY that is awarded at the Sweet Sixteen that they are arguing about. Who gets that one? I think Henderson partly because he's the best player from the best team, and a really important statistic that hasn't gotten a lot of mention in this thread is W's.

We are talking about that POY. The only way, IMO Arrez doesn't get it is if Holmes doesn't win region. Then McGraw or Sorrell would maybe have an argument for it.

Other than that, I see Henderson getting it. He has already proved himself at the state tournament. Best player on the best team usually gets it from the ninth.

Last year Austin Hill of Holmes received it.

I agree with you, but there is a POY awarded by the Enquirer in each of the three divisions. Chances are Henderson and Sorrell will both get that "POY". Here's the real question: when is the Sweet Sixteen POY voted on? After regionals? Before districts? I don't see any way Henderson doesn't get it, but it will be a closer race if Holmes doesn't win the region, and the voting takes place after the regional.

Sorrel has to do alot more for his team than Arrez does. Corey Can't take nights off like Arrez can. If Sorrel had the supporting cast like Arrez then this wouldn't be a question. Sorrel has at least 6 games with 30+. My vote goes to Sorrel he comes in every night works hard, and im not saying Arrez doesn't. But IMO Sorrel doesn't take bad shots and rebounds (13+ a game). Imo POY goes to Sorrel.

You can't penalize Arrez for being on a deeper/better team. Arrez is a better all-around player but not as good offensively as Sorrell.

I think if McGraw didn't have a bad back that the Sorrell/Arrez debate would be academic.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

Henderson average 9 points less, yes. But he's also playing less mins than Sorrell, due to his team winning 90% of thier games by 20 plus which has him sitting and reserves getting some PT. It's not like he's the only starter sitting. Also Holmes is a very deep team. No need for Henderson to be out there the whole game. He is getting 17 in probably 20 minutes a game. Not too shabby if you ask me.

Not too sure how many rebounds Mcgraw averages but that's because Highlands doesn't have all of their state posted.

Henderson touches the ball just as much as Sorrell. He just doesnt shoot as much as Sorrell. Also Sorrell has more turnovers than Henderson in 12 less games than him. Wouldn't it balance out somewhere? Also if Sorrell is all world, according to you, wouldn't he be a little better with handling the ball?

Henderson guards the other team's best player every game. You can say it's a team thing, which it is,but the whole team isn't running around chasing one player the whole game. Face it, Sorrell might be the best SHOOTER in the region, but not the best all around player. There's two aspects to a game...offense and defense. Also it is kinda strange that Henderson supposedlly gets all this help on defense but yet the other team's best player usually has their worst game against Holmes and Henderson just happens to be guarding them? Gimme a break.

You have seen both Holmes and Highlands probably twice and you all of a sudden know so much about them?

Henderson was in foul trouble against Dixie. Isn't sitting him what all coaches would do? Also, once again, its not like Henderson is the only one who sits. The other starters do as well because Holmes is so deep.

And get you facts straight about Mcgrw. He sits because he has a very bad back that almost cost him his career. He's not even supposed to be playing but he is trying to help his team out. Doctors have him on strict orders of how much he can do.

And what's your point about the rebounds? Corey Sorrell is 6'4. Shouldn't he be averaging more rebounds than guards?

Seriously what's your beef with Henderson and Mcgraw? Any time someone tries to say something positive about them you immediately jump in and have something negative to say. Corey Sorrell is a good player but head to head match ups don't lie and he was shut down by Henderson,

To answer the bolded posts, don't tell me what you THINK you know about McGraw and his back.

Sorrell is a guard. :banana::banana:

What's your beef with Sorrell, anytime I say anything good about him you immediately jump and have something negative to say. The other too are good players, but numbers don't lie and Sorrell averages 26 plus and 14 playing one of the toughest schedules in the area.
