For those that want the tourney moved back to Mason, just make sure you and everyone else that cares attend every session. If they are required to turn several people away, then I don't forsee anyone voting to have it there again. But if it handles the crowd for all sessions, I see no reason why not to rotate the location.

Where does this sense of entitlement come from for the games to be at Mason? It is good for the region and Montgomery has a new place to show. What is wrong with that? Mason has done and did a great job and will continue to do so but others who step up to the plate will get a turn at the tournament. In a short time the tournament will be played in Highland Heights and seating will not be a problem.

The main thing is that everyone that wants to see the game gets to, end of discussion. If Montgomery Co. can do this, then let them have a shot at it. If not, then it's back to Mason County.

I doubt the Mason Co. faithful will be so faithful when the game isn't played in their backyard.

 

However, the State did widen route 11 in anticipation of the Mason Co. crowd heading to Mt. Sterling. We all just hope its wide enough.

If it was indeed true that there were 1,780 in attendance at the 2007 girls' 10th region final last year, my advice for those wanting to see a Mason-Clark, Mason-Montgomery or Clark-Montgomery semi or final this year is get there early. As in the night before.

No way Montgomery accomodates a regional final this year if numbers are anywhere near last years 4000 range. Well they will I guess I should say, but as we have beat this in the ground previously....there will be several folks told to go to the Cracker Barrel down the road. Who cares if it rotates, just rotate it to a place that can hold attendance. By the time two bands are in the gym, seating is gone for most fans wanting to attend. It was packed for the girls regional final and this will not last long after this year. Take the tournament somewhere that is accomodating.

:fight: The 10th region has always lead the state in attendance and revenue and that is jeopardized by the move to a venue that has 1500-2000 fewer seats. At a time that schools will be strapped by budget cuts from the state we will penalize them further by cutting their pay-out from this event and destroying a proud tradition of leading the state in attendance. It's wrong on many levels and the fans and schools will suffer.......again if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Great picture and good article.The crowds will be down and the only crowds you will have is if Clark vs Montgomery,Clark vs Mason or if Mason vs Montgomery. Can't see large crowds at the other games. Wasn't last year. I still say that Mason is the place for the tournament to be held and I don't even live in Mason Co.:ylsuper:

They do not care about the people of the region and all the teams and fans. They don't care how far people will have to travel on school nights. They do not care how many people they inconvenience when they can not get in the gym. They do not care about the revenue for the schools. Either people will get turned away or many may just decide to stay at home because of high gas prices. It's still less money at the gate.

I think they voted that way because they're closer. Clark ,Paris,and Bourbon are only 10-12 miles away.:ylsuper:

It's not "anti-rotation" that is the issue, it's more "anti-not-big enough." The way I take all of the threads concerning this change, no one cares that it is rotating gyms from Mason (unless they are enamored with the tradition, which is another part of the opinion altogether). Everyone is more up in arms that the tournament is changing gyms to one where it's possible that people will be turned away.

 

To answer your #1, if things play out as the general opinion says it will, then there is the possibility of three scenarios playing out -- Mason-Clark, Mason-Montgomery or Clark-Montgomery -- either in the semis, finals, or both. Then, the gym will not be big enough (your #2). Notice none of three of these schools are NKY.

 

Only from a purely selfish standpoint would I like it to stay at Mason each year of the district rotation (it's 10 minutes from my house). Bottom line is, if it's going to change annually for each district's vote on a four-year rotating basis, make sure the best-attended region tournament in the state is held in a facility big enough for all the fans wanting to watch.
