I haven't seen the administration from Montgomery County visiting Mason County offering help in previous years. They usually come in, play or watch the games and then leave. Why should it be any different for Mason County this year? These comments are ridiculous. If they can't run it then don't go blaming Mason Co. for not going to Mt. Sterling and running it for them.

 

Another thought. Last year I had the opportunity to visit the hospitality rooms at both schools. THERE WAS NO COMPARISON!!!! Those ladies in Maysville sure know how to put out a spread. That is one thing I will surely miss.

 

Let's say you are a builder and have been building houses for over 30 years. Furthermoere, let's say I have never built a house before in my life. Would you expect me to give you advice on building a house? I'd say you'd be somewhat offended if I even offered. Now let's say I decide to get into the business and I'm about to start building my first house. Wouldn't it make sense for me to seek out the advice of someone who's been doing it for over 30 years? Do you see the difference here?

 

Now you may not want to give me any advice because maybe you are afraid that I would build a better house and would take away some of your business in the future. In fact, you may hope that my first house turns out to be such a disaster that I never build another one. That would be your right, and maybe that is the attitude the Mason Co. people have. If so, it sounds selfish and somewhat childish to me.

I doubt the Mason Co. faithful will be so faithful when the game isn't played in their backyard.

 

However, the State did widen route 11 in anticipation of the Mason Co. crowd heading to Mt. Sterling. We all just hope its wide enough.

I don't know if they have asked for help or if they have been turned down. You said earlier that it would be ridiculous for Mason Co. administrators to offer help because the Montgomery Co. administrators hadn't given any help in the past. You asked why it should be any different this year. I was simply trying to show you the difference. I don't think Mason Co. has needed any help or advice because they have done a fine job for many years. This will be Montgomery's first attempt and I'm sure they can use all the help/advice they can get. However, after reading the article, Mr. Hester doesn't sound to me like somebody willing to help.

 

As for the bashing, seems to me most of the bashing is coming from people outside of Montgomery Co. The gym's too small, the drive's too long, the walk to the hospitality room is too long, and the hospitality room isn't any good anyway.

 

I for one won't be making any excuses if it is a flop, which I don't think it will be. The only way Mason Co. fans can be blamed for or contributing to it being a flop, would be if they don't come at all and the attendance suffers as a result......and I know that won't be an issue.

I'm sure the Mason Co fans will support their team just as they always do. Rest assured, that is one thing that I do not doubt.

Maybe both newspaper articles should be taken and flushed down those fancy toilets Mr. Rison referred to in his comments. If you think his statements weren't on the rude side, you are mistaken. I have my doubts that he would be real receptive to any friendly advice from Fred Hester. Even though Mr. Hester complimented the administration from Montgomery Co. in his comments.

 

Everyone should just agree to disagree. Montgomery and Clark Counties versus the rest of the region. Oh I guess I forgot about Paris. But since I believe this district is seeded, I have my doubts that we'll be seeing anyone from Paris in attendance. So much for the chance of the small school.

 

Maybe this thread should be flushed along with the articles. I guess everyone will see what happens come March.

So the first article, in the Lexington paper, written by an unbiased Mike Fields had the numbers incorrect, but the second article, in the Maysville paper, based on quotes from a Mason Co. administrator is accurate?

What kind of support and help would be requested of Mason County to help out? Are we talking about administrative support and help, advice, situations? I doubt very seriously that the administration at Montgomery is calling the administration at Mason County.

 

I agree. Why would they need help from Mason? Although, Montgomery ROTC may us chain instead of rope.....you never know when the court may get rushed.

Does the 10th Region Girls Tournament have an identity - NO!

 

And if the tournament moves to NKU and Montgomery County etc., the 10th Region Tournament will become just as generic as the 9th Region Tournament, which has no identity either.

For the sake of conversation let's put the shoe on the other foot.

 

Let's surmize that there had been no Fieldhouse until this year, and that Montgomery County's present new facility (in some shape or form) had been around since 1969 (or whenever) and the 10th Region Tournament had been a nomadic event rotating between Montgomery/Clark/Campbell Middle, or was held annually in Mount Sterling.

 

Now in 2008 the Fieldhouse is built and ready to host the 10th Region Tournament. Let me tell you, there would be a groundswell of support to move the 10th Region Tournament to this new spacious, centrally located venue where finally there were no seating issues or major travel issues, and to boot each of the participating schools would be guaranteed nearly $5,000 share money annually, with the other member non-participating schools receiving a cut as well.

 

I think that if my above scenerio were the case, people would be so happy to have a world class venue to showcase their annual regional tournament that everyone would be in accordance to have it hosted there on an annual basis - forever!

 

At some point, the fieldhouse detractors need to put their petty in-fighting attitudes aside and do what's best for all of the schools and fans of 10th Region basketball, and admit that the entire region is best served by holding the tournament at the Mason County Fieldhouse, and not Mount Sterling (location, seating), Winchester (location, seating), or NKU (location).

 

Pure and simply, by moving the 10th Region Tournament out of the fieldhouse, you are going to lose a high percentage of "casual tournament goers" who frequent the 10th Region Tournament in Maysville. People who would attend the tournament in Maysville are simply not going to go to Mount Sterling, unless their team is playing, and maybe not then. Having businesses make up for the differential in revenue is not the answer for the lost fan base.

 

Just because the laws of the land permit each district to dictate where the tournament is going to be held, and do what they consider to be best (self-serving) for their district at the expense of the entire region, doesn't make it right.

 

Other regions who are not as fortunate as the 10th is to have the Mason County Fieldhous must be looking at us, scratching their heads, and wondering just what we are thinking!

Not true. I would be in favor of putting it in the rotation, but would never be in favor of having it on a member school's home floor EVERY year. For me, it's a fairness issue, not about travel distances, or size of gym, or hospitality rooms, etc......but FAIRNESS, plain and simple.
