These three schools voted out of spite.

They do not care about the people of the region and all the teams and fans. They don't care how far people will have to travel on school nights. They do not care how many people they inconvenience when they can not get in the gym. They do not care about the revenue for the schools. Either people will get turned away or many may just decide to stay at home because of high gas prices. It's still less money at the gate.

 

However the outcome or crowd the schools of the 10th Region will come out the looser at a time loss of revenue is coming from all directions. The excitement and tradition of the 10th Regional will not be the same. What a let down for everyone involved. Home court advantage will not win a tournament for you. You still have to play ball. Spite, Revenge and Jealousy Hurts everyone.

 

Their coaches might want to give their team the best chance to win.

It's not "anti-rotation" that is the issue, it's more "anti-not-big enough." The way I take all of the threads concerning this change, no one cares that it is rotating gyms from Mason (unless they are enamored with the tradition, which is another part of the opinion altogether). Everyone is more up in arms that the tournament is changing gyms to one where it's possible that people will be turned away.

 

To answer your #1, if things play out as the general opinion says it will, then there is the possibility of three scenarios playing out -- Mason-Clark, Mason-Montgomery or Clark-Montgomery -- either in the semis, finals, or both. Then, the gym will not be big enough (your #2). Notice none of three of these schools are NKY.

 

Only from a purely selfish standpoint would I like it to stay at Mason each year of the district rotation (it's 10 minutes from my house). Bottom line is, if it's going to change annually for each district's vote on a four-year rotating basis, make sure the best-attended region tournament in the state is held in a facility big enough for all the fans wanting to watch.

I don't have a problem with it being somewhere else, I would just like to watch the game, sitting comfortably in the gym, not standing out in a hallway or something. In other words, I don't want to be turned away at the door if I'm going to make over an hour's drive there.

I say let Montgomery host it and wish them well. Give them a chance. Wait and see what happens. Then start this thread over in March.

After all, no other school administration in the region has had the experience of hosting the tournament because Mason Co. has had the exclusive on that for years.

What kind of support and help would be requested of Mason County to help out? Are we talking about administrative support and help, advice, situations? I doubt very seriously that the administration at Montgomery is calling the administration at Mason County.

If it is their turn to host and the community and school wants to do that, then they have every right. I don't care if it holds 1,000. Who said that I have the largest gym, so I get it every year. Does Mason have any away games? And what makes people think that they can see every sporting event? If that were the case I would never miss a game in Neyland or Rupp. I can't believe that it has gone on this long without a move. Shame on the other schools.

That is a valid point. Almost every level of every sport I know has their postseason at either a neutral venue or they have some sort of rotation.

Mason Co has had experience of having the tourney since 1969, and knows what will work and what has not in the past. I am sure they didn't have a perfect ran tourney the first time they hosted it. Neither will Montgomery Co. But with Masons help, and advice it would make the 10th region tourney more enjoyable for everyone. Isn't that what everyone wants? Or do some want Montgomery Co to fail so they can say " I told you so." Just like when Clark Co tried to have it.....Mason is where it should be. Why does Montgomery Co have to ask? Maybe they have. Why doesn't Mason Co offer? Maybe they have. Would be very interesting to know.

Also for their fans. The SEC tourney is not in the most central location and the largest arena every year. When they have it in Nashville. LOTS of fans don't get tickets and have to watch it on TV.

Yes, I feel it will when those districts up there, it is their turn to host the region, if things with the University can be worked out. Who knows...it would be the largest and could be voted on by all other districts to have it there. The 37th votes next year to where the tournament is held. The tournament will NOT be held at NKU next year. The 9th region has already reserved the arena for the dates needed. I heard this from very reliable sources.

I doubt the Mason Co. faithful will be so faithful when the game isn't played in their backyard.

 

However, the State did widen route 11 in anticipation of the Mason Co. crowd heading to Mt. Sterling. We all just hope its wide enough.

 

Have you ever been to a Mason Co away game? The crowd typically goes where the royals go. If you don't believe me then ask the crew from Lexington Catholic who brings the biggest crowds? Why do you think the game this Friday was moved to Memorial? This statement sounds a tad bit jealous to me.

Because they have hosted the regional tourney since 1969.....experience. No one is asking Mason to run it for them. But I am sure that Mason Co has the experience and knowledge to help make the regional tourney run more smoothly for everyone involved. Is that not what everyone wants?
