Cantrall Rankings

I think Elliott was a big disadvantage because they were playing their 3rd night in a row while CovCath was only playing their 2nd night. Either way, Elliott has some big chances coming up to prove themselves - including Mason County.

Plus the fact Elliotts game the previous night did not start until 9:30 pm ! While Cov Cath played an afternoon game I believe somewhere between 3-5:30.

This poll looks a lot more legitimate than Litkenhaus. Mason County is the best team in Kentucky, with several teams nipping at their heals. Cumberland High is not as high in this poll as they could be due to the lack of quality opponents, but they will have a chance this month against some very good competition to show what kind of team they really are. I really believe they are one of the best 25 teams in Kentucky, but I understand that strength of schedule is a big factor along with margin of victory in a poll like this. Cumberland has shown a lot of class and been generous in the 4th quarter of a lot of their games going deep in to their bench. Lookout for the Redskins they are on the rise!!

They would need to win the All A Classic to be considered. They play Evarts three times, and it is highly possible they'll play a fourth time. Their schedule is not challenging at all, and a first-round All A flameout against Bardstown will not help their cause at all. They knew they had what was supposed to be a good team this year, and should've scheduled appropriately.

Would think that Cov Cath would be a little higher since their only two losses are to Mason Co. and they beat Elliott Co.

You could make a big list like this: Shelby Valley beat both DeSales & Male

Paintsville beat Lincoln Co & there are probably more but I just did not look to closely.

I agree with you. Cumberland should be a whole lot higher and these rankings not haven the Skins in the upper tier of the 13th Region is a joke.

On the girls' side, North Laurel is rated second in the region despite having home losses to both Jackson County and South Laurel.

Go figure.

Well so far now I have seen the 3 or 4 different rankings listed on this site and none of them are legit according to the posters on here!! Can someone tell me where we can find the "one" that is supposed to be correct. According to people on here BGP's was no good Litk.haus was no good and now Cantrell's is no good??????????????????????????????????

Fatigue makes really good teams look average :thumb:

Agreed, I watched the Cov Cath/ Elliott game and Cov Cath is a little better.

I really like Elliott but they have zero quality wins.

I have watched Elliott play multiple times this year and Cov Cath is not better than Elliott in my opinion. Elliott had worst draw in the the 5th 3rd having to play 3 games straight and had the toughest draw of a second round game with the team from Tennessee at 9:30 at night. The Elliott boys were running on fumes in this game. I would love to see Elliott meet up with Cov Cath in the 1st or 2nd round of the state tournament. Elliott has Zero so called quality wins, but they are beating everyone on their schedule with the exception of Cov Cath. Elliott will play Hunington High this Saturday and will hopefully play in the Class A state. So we should get a better idea of how good this team is then. I believe this is a legitimate Top 5 school and I believe they will prove it in March.

The night before the Covington Catholic game, Elliott County beat Grace Christian Academy of Chattanooga, Tenn., by eight points. Grace is 7-7, which would seem to indicate that they're not that great a team.

Elliott is a top-20 team without a doubt, but top 10? That's very debatable.

I don't think any of us want to admit it, but there are several teams who still today think that they are better than Cov. Cath..... but still have a loss on their record. Time will tell.

Elliot has a great team this year. That team is a lot of fun to watch. I think by the seasons end they will be a legit top ten team. At this point, due to lack of competition I'd put them in the 11-15 range. They have a lot of chances in the next month to prove to the rest of the state what those in the 16th region already see in this team.

What about the 7 loses that Scott Co has...

I think a few of those loses came from out of state teams during the tournament they played in over the holidays.

I was wondering the same though. Their record isn't impressive at all.

A couple of oddities in this poll.

In the 10th, Clark County is there and Montgomery; who beat Clark by 10, is not.

Montgomery is there at 25th.

I don't see How Clark is above Montgomery? Especially when they beat them on Clark's home floor?

6 out of 7 have come to out of state teams.

And there one in state loss comes to a team ranked below them?

Who have they beat to deserve that ranking? I know there a good team but there ranked third solely on reputation and what they did last year as of now.
