mcpapa Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 A couple of oddities in this poll. In the 10th, Clark County is there and Montgomery; who beat Clark by 10, is not. Henderson County, losers by something like 18 or 20 to Clark County, is ranked above Clark County. Not sure how Madison Central makes the list at #18. Desales seems high at #11. At this time, the top 5 teams listed should be the top 5 teams. One might argue a little bit about where they should fall, 1-5, but they're the top 5 right now. I wonder how close Hazard and Cumberland were. Touch to crack the list if you don't play any KY teams outside the mountains.
Wireman Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Looks at least decent, I guess. Its odd to have an 8-7 team at #3 in the poll, even though most of those losses were out of state and didn't really "count". Not too bad of a job.
doomer Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Pretty reasonable. Of course there will always be some room to shuffle things around. Desales after a tough loss to June Buchanon in 5/3 went on to win the consolation bracket I believe. They played some very good basketball. I don't see Clark in the top 20.
Trojans Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Looks pretty good compared to how it has been in past years. I don't think Madison Central's wins and losses so far warrant a #18 ranking. I also think that is why Clark is ranked in this poll because Central is rated too high and Clark beat Central in OT (also I know it doesn't have anything to do with rankings but as an aside Central was without Aaron Morris). Dunbar and Shelby Valley should be top 10 teams based on what they have done so far. Why is Desales rated so high? Also Scott County should be a little lower.
madman Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Would think that Cov Cath would be a little higher since their only two losses are to Mason Co. and they beat Elliott Co.
Trojans Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I just noticed UHA isn't in there. That is crazy! Wins over #16 Adair and #18 Madison Central along with one of their 3 losses going to #7 Male by 2 points. A blowout of Tates Creek at Tates Creek didn't hurt either. Hopson and Edmonson are two great players on a quality team.
Trojans Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Would think that Cov Cath would be a little higher since their only two losses are to Mason Co. and they beat Elliott Co. Agreed, I watched the Cov Cath/ Elliott game and Cov Cath is a little better. I really like Elliott but they have zero quality wins.
isthatallyougot Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 GRC should not be in the top 25. Not the same team Franklin beat first game. Showing some signs of life now!
doomer Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Not the same team Franklin beat first game. Showing some signs of life now! I can see from their results where they have certainly improved since the beginning of the season, but so have most of the other young teams. I would just see that while they may be close to being ranked, there are a few teams that may deserve it more....UHA for example.
FANOFTHE11th Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Not the same team Franklin beat first game. Showing some signs of life now!Franklin County got their football players out about 4 days prior to that game. They were not in basketball shape and did not play the first half. FC shot very poorly from the line down the stretch, while GRC lit up from three to get back in the game. Franklin County was definately not full strength and really didn't play that good and still beat GRC. I stick by my opinion, GRC is not a top 25 team.
Old School Dr. Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 This poll looks a lot more legitimate than Litkenhaus. Mason County is the best team in Kentucky, with several teams nipping at their heals. Cumberland High is not as high in this poll as they could be due to the lack of quality opponents, but they will have a chance this month against some very good competition to show what kind of team they really are. I really believe they are one of the best 25 teams in Kentucky, but I understand that strength of schedule is a big factor along with margin of victory in a poll like this. Cumberland has shown a lot of class and been generous in the 4th quarter of a lot of their games going deep in to their bench. Lookout for the Redskins they are on the rise!!
Wireman Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Agreed, I watched the Cov Cath/ Elliott game and Cov Cath is a little better. I really like Elliott but they have zero quality wins. I think Elliott was a big disadvantage because they were playing their 3rd night in a row while CovCath was only playing their 2nd night. Either way, Elliott has some big chances coming up to prove themselves - including Mason County.
