Their record isn't impressive at all.

That depends on your definition of "impressive" ... truth be told, it is very impressive, considering the level of competition Scott County has played.

Bottom line ... Elliott lacks a real quality win, last year and this year. Until they get one, the top-10 talk is just that ... talk.

I've looked at Grace's schedule ... they're a decent team, nothing more and nothing less. They would not be a top-30 team in Kentucky, so I hesitate to call it a "quality win."

 

And Jim Schue is right. Grace's .500 record has no business being compared to Scott County's mark. The strength of schedules are in different galaxies.

 

I do believe I said "by no means do I believe Grace Academy is as good as Scott Co." Just stating that a record can sometime be decieving using Scott Co. for an example. Grace was a pretty solid team which could win a few regions in KY. Wether is is a quality win is debatable, I say yes.

The AP poll is a lot like the AP college football poll ... some of the writers seem to vote based on records with little regard for strength of schedule.

It's not like Cumberland had a choice of whether or not to play Evarts, they are in the same District, 2 games is mandatory and the 3rd was a blind draw for the All A. Cumberland has the potential to meet up with some of the top 25 teams this month, so IMO I believe you along with a lot of people will find out they are for real. These rankings do not determine who are the best teams in the state, that fortunately is done on the court.

 

They should've scheduled some other top 25 teams to prepare them for this. Heck, they don't even have Corbin scheduled! You've gotta have the region's No. 1 and 2 teams play. Face facts: Cumberland did what so many other 13th Region teams before them and scheduled inappropriately when a good team was coming up.

You must obviously agree with me that Cumberland could and should be ranked higher than they are in this and the other power polls by referring to them as one of the top 2 teams in the 13th. In regard to playing Corbin, they have had a one game series with them the last several years rotating the location with Cumberland being the location this year, but Corbin chose to not play the game! Cumberland has competed with the top teams in the state the last two years in various tournaments and summer AAU and have shown each and everytime that they are a quality team. There schedule is going to get much tougher this month with games against top 25 teams so why dont you get out and watch them play a game or two and you might see what I have been talking about.

With the WYMT Classic and the All A Classic coming up there will be no hiding. I don't think the coach intentionally set out to get a weak schedule. I heard that some teams just refused to play them, not because they are scared but because it was the last year of the school and Cumberland could not return a game. There is a lot of reasons that they are not playing the so-called top 25 teams.

I think the ratings look pretty good except for the fact that Shelby Valley beat Male, Desales, and played J-Town all over the floor on their home court and are ranked either below them all or tied with them.

I've watched Cumberland the past three years or so, so I know what this team is about even though I haven't seen them this year. And doing well on the AAU circuit doesn't always mean anything. 20,000 people don't show up to watch the AAU state championship.

 

And if they mess up and lose to Pineville or somebody else with upset on their minds, there's no guarantee their schedule gets any tougher with a trip to the All A Classic. It certainly doesn't get beefed up by playing in the WYMT Classic. They should've opted out of that one and played in one of the more prestigious Christmas tournaments in Lex, Louisville or elsewhere.
