January 2, 200818 yr Obviously the SEC is the best conference in the nation. The Big 10 is down to some people and is among one of the worst in the nation. How many times have we had this conversation???
January 2, 200818 yr In the last five years I believe according to ESPN radio the Big 10 is up 9-7 in bowl games played against the SEC.

January 2, 200818 yr Author Ohio State is a very good team and has a very good program. They lead the nation in 17... yes SEVENTEEN defensive categories. That is a crazy stat. The biggest factor in this is the teams that they've played IMO. A team like Georgia or USC would put up those same defensive numbers, if not better probably, playing the schedule that they did. You throw Ohio State into the SEC and there's no way they get out of that conference with only one loss. I think the national championship game will be very competitive, I don't see it being like last year, but OSU in the SEC is just another good team (UT, UGA, FLA, AUB, etc).

I do not think anyone believes tOSU and Michigan, on a consistent basis, would not compete for the title in the SEC. They always have good coaching, stud recruits, etc. But beyond that people have some questions.
January 2, 200818 yr tOSU and Michigan are usually good. You can usually add in another team too (Wisconsin, Illinois...) THIS YEAR, they're down, IMO. Of course, if the Michigan that showed up vs Florida had shown up the rest of the year, I might not feel the same way. The SEC always has at least a couple teams at the top (Florida, UGA, LSU, UT...) and is getting VERY deep. Outside of Ol' Miss, every team in the SEC was good this year. Thats impressive. Overall, I give the SEC the edge. This year I definitely do. This year isn't typical though.

Wisconsin, and Penn State are also usually pretty good. Also you could add Purdue in there too and now Illinois. How? Teams like Illinois and IU, who were teams winning 3-4 games a year now winning 7 and 9 games a year. The Big 10 always has good teams at the top ( OSU, UM, Penn State, Wisconsin ) Outside of Minnesota, every team in the Big 10 was good, that is also impressive. The SEC is pretty good, but the Big 10 had 8 of their 11 teams with winning records and 2 had .500 records, and 1 had a losing record. The SEC had 9 of the 12 SEC teams had winning records, 1 with a .500 record and 2 with losing records...

But wait it is because the SEC plays each other week end and week out, and you know no other conference can come close to matching the speed and dominance of them. Heck if they played in the Big Ten every team would go undefeated and play for a NC every year. I hope you get my sarcasm. It is becoming more and more clear that the SEC is not as good as most think. Yes they are a good conference but not that good. I am starting to think that if Michigan played in the SEC they might play for a NC every year. Coach Carr won 5 of his six Bowl wins against the Almighty!

January 2, 200818 yr This season, the SEC is the best conference in the nation. You'd be a fool to argue otherwise.
January 2, 200818 yr Because they now have a former SEC coach at the helm. Is that the same as the SEC's best having a former Big ten coach and player at the helm.
January 3, 200818 yr Here's one of the main reasons for the fact that 8 of the 11 Big 10 teams had winning records. As a conference they played almost nobody out of conference. Here are the Big 10's OOC wins against 2007 Bowl Teams before the bowl season began: Illinois and Indiana defeated Ball State Michigan State defeated Bowling Green Northwestern defeated Nevada (who finished 6-7) and Purdue defeated Central Michigan That's it, all of the wins save Nevada were against MAC teams and Hawaii's public humiliation showed how tough WAC teams are.
