January 3, 200818 yr How? Teams like Illinois and IU, who were teams winning 3-4 games a year now winning 7 and 9 games a year. Outside of Minnesota, every team in the Big 10 was good, that is also impressive. IU was much better than normal, but I'm not sure that I would call them a good team. They won 7 games but those wins were against opponets whose combined records were 31-53. Purdue was by far their best win. They benefited by not having to play either Ohio St. or Michigan. They only beat two teams with a winning record and didn't beat any Big 10 teams with an in conference winning record.

Here are the Big 10's OOC wins against 2007 Bowl Teams before the bowl season began: Illinois and Indiana defeated Ball State Michigan State defeated Bowling Green Northwestern defeated Nevada (who finished 6-7) and Purdue defeated Central Michigan That's it, all of the wins save Nevada were against MAC teams and Hawaii's public humiliation showed how tough WAC teams are. Just like when I mention B10 # 3 beat SEC #2 last year and I get responses like " six other teams were better than Ark". Then this year Floridia was the sixth best team in SEC because they say so and it took the B10 #2 to beat them.It always has to fit in to make the SEC seem better than it is. Facts are facts and head to head Bowl games speak for themselves. I am not saying the Big 10 is almighty and no one is even close. I am just saying they are as good as the SEC year in and year out.

If those two played now, it would be a lot closer than what that score was and I would probably say V. Tech could beat LSU right now.
January 3, 200818 yr Don't forget that Central Michigan won the MAC, and Nevada isn't a bad team also... Nevada isn't horrible, but they finished 6-7 in the WAC....we all know what happened to the WAC last night. This season the SEC was by far the best conference. Ohio St is always good, Michigan finally showed up to play against Florida. All the other teams are average at best.

It was as early in the season for LSU as it was for VaTech, and the Hokies didn't get beat by just a little bit.

They played plenty of patsies too but in addition to their wins they also played these games: Tennessee lost to Cal South Carolina lost to Clemson Vanderbilt lost to Wake Forest Auburn lost to South Florida Mississippi State lost to West Virginia Alabama lost to Florida State Mississippi lost to Missouri With the two losses in bowl games that makes the SEC's record agains non-conference bowl teams to 15-9 which is good but not completely dominant.
