The SEC - Big 10 Debate

Featured Replies

That was an early game early in the season. If those two played now, it would be a lot closer than what that score was and I would probably say V. Tech could beat LSU right now.

After tonight, do you want to re-evaluate your position?

That'll never happen. Anytime one of his predictions goes wrong, someone posts numbers that disprove his position or he gets called out (see my Avatar bet on the Minnesota/UNLV basketball thread) BB tends to disappear from the thread.

UK is 11-4 at Commonwealth over the last 2 seasons, including a win over the number 1 ranked team in the country so I'd say it has become a tough place to play. The past couple of seasons are very relevant because UK has just gotten to where they have a full compliment of scholarships. The announcers noted during the FSU game that UK's roster was now full of legitimate SEC level athletes--that wasn't the case 3 seasons ago. As for Indiana, even as bad as UK was didn't they win what, 8 out of the last 10 against IU?

UK has been a very good team these last 2 years but you can't take it for just the two years. You need to take it as a whole. I am wondering if UK can maintain its current level when this senior class leaves.

I am a big SEC football guy, and I think the SEC is the best football confrence in the country hands down. I don't like the Big X because they don't play a confrence championship and they seem to play a much slower style of football. But anyone who thinks that OSU and Michigan couldn't come into the SEC and compete for the SEC crown every year is kidding themselves. If you let either team play Flordia, LSU, UT, Alabama, Georgia and Auburn at alternating sites they would more than hold their own. I don't know if any of these teams could go to the Horse-shoe and win or if any could walk out with a W in the Big House. (I know that Appy St. won at the Big House but the focus level for any of these teams would be much better than it was for Appy St.) Now both teams would suffer some losses because they would have a hard time going into the mentioned teams homes and winning, but they would play a role in the SEC Championship every year. If it be by being in the game or by beating a team that looked like it would be playing in the game.

I am a fan of both conferences, and think this is a very fair assessment. I also think that top to bottom the SEC is the best conference year in and year out (there are a few years where this is not true, but not many). After that I think the Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10, and Big East fight it out for 2 thru 5 in different years. What amazes me is the number of people who say the Big 10 sucks or the Big East sucks. All five of these conferences are good.

Should be able to improve. As poor as the future looked when Brooks came in they were still able to recruit. With the rise of the program and the troubles in the ville their in state recruiting will improve. Additionally, national recruiting will have to be better now than 4 years ago.

No. I still honestly think V. Tech could beat LSU right now. At the start of the year LSU was playing good, V. Tech started off slow. I still think they could play with them right now, and yes beat them. It isn't like Kansas isn't a good team, they went 12-1 this year.

Of course you do. If they started slow, looks like they finished that way too.

Obviously the SEC is the best conference in the nation. The Big 10 is down to some people and is among one of the worst in the nation. How many times have we had this conversation???

:thumb: That is imo all that needs to be said. I personally am a fan of both the SEC ad the Big10 as I am a fan of all of college football. This (constant SEC vs. Big10 arguing/critisizm's) is just beyond me I guess.

I enjoy watching ALL college football, I am a fan of college football.....Period.

Seems to me that just bc someone is an Ohio State fotball fan that SEC fans and others want to jump all over them, whatever flips your switch I guess .

Yes, the SEC is imo the best football conference in the nation - I haven't seen where or how anyone is or could dispute that.

As far as all the bickering about which one is the best conference I will have to say that it has once again won the Dead Horse Award.

What this all boils down to is that it seems that some are so upset and filled with being mad/hatred/jeaousy or whatever that Ohio State is in the NC game they cannot stand it.

^ I am not calling any one personally out here, just seems like every other thread on here is leading to the same thing, just in different ways to get there.

Here is he Fact...................

LSU will be playing Ohio State Monday Night for the National Championship.........Deal with it. :D

Very well said...

Here is why the SEC is better than the Big 10, OSU and MU. Thats all they got. And put either one in the SEC this season. MU might not even get to a bowl and OSU loses 3 to 5.

Wow... the SEC is the better overall conference, but if you're gonna bash another conference atleast get your facts straight.

First offf, its the University of Michigan or UM, not MU

Second off, UM has been down a little of late, but they have consistently been a top 20 team and has not been on the bowl bubble.

Third, How many times since Tressel has taken over did OSU lose 3-5?

2001 - 7-5

2002 - 14-0 (National Champions)

2003 - 11-2 (Fiesta Bowl Champions)

2004 - 8-4 (Alamo Bowl Champions) Destroyed #7 Michigan

2005 - 11-2 (Fiesta Bowl Champions) Only losses were to #1 and #3 teams

2006 - 12-1 (National Championship Game)

2007 - (11-1) (In Championship Game)

Here is why the SEC is better than the Big 10, OSU and MU. Thats all they got. And put either one in the SEC this season. MU might not even get to a bowl and OSU loses 3 to 5.

I'm an SEC fan, but these statements are a little bold. Wisconsin has a very good team, Penn St. is good, Purdue is usually good, Illinois is good..........and believe it or not, Ohio St. & Michigan would be fighting for the SEC title year in and year out if they were in the conference.

If Michigan would not get to a bowl if they played in the SEC, what does that say about Florida?

It would not surprise me to see you eating a lot of crow Tuesday.

I have no problem eating crow. All these threads are is a collection of peoples opinions. I stated what was/is my opinion and if OSU beats LSU. That does not prove/disprove anything. They were fortunate to only lose twice this year. As for Florida I'll give them a little pass because of it being Carr's last game.
