Can someone closer with the Mason program tell me more about Middleton? What year he is? Who's looking at him on the next level? Just stuff like that. He seem like a solid player from what i've read.

 

He is a junior and has already commited to Georgetown College in KY.

Being a veteran of extended stay out-of-town road trips, let alone back-to-back out of country and out of town road trips within two weeks - I'll certainly give the Royals a "get out of jail free" card on this one.

 

I know that LexCath was in Florida and that they are certainly not chopped liver, but I'm not selling my Mason County Royals stock because of this one.

 

Great game to listen to. Mason County ran out to the big lead and LexCath caught and passed them at the wire.

 

The rematch on January 18th should be more telling.

Mason County is still the better team when it counts in March. JMHO.

This loss will do Mason County a lot of good in the fact that the loss is to a great opponent and also to a in state team. If one wants to continue to find a positive from this loss, its still in December and not late February and early March. This teams focus will benefit from the loss, their rest is important, and getting back to a regular routine once school starts back will be all factors that will do this excellent basketball team in Mason County a lot of good. Lexington Catholic is a great basketball team, the battles that these two programs have went through head to head against one another is what makes high school basketball in the state of Kentucky special. I feel for Pendleton County come Wednesday night in the opener of the MCIT, these Royals will be hungry.

Playing not to lose is not a good strategy. Miller showed no heart or dominance tonight. He is surely capable of much more.

In regulation they played not to lose in the last two minutes (went into the 4 corner). In the overtime they just straight up got beat.

Just having come back from Hawaii and then playing a tough June B, and CovCath on back to back nights, then playing LexCath at LexCath finally did Mason County in. Their hearts and the fire where still there, but bodies and minds get tired after a while.

My understanding is that Lex Cath had travel problems as well returning from Las Vegas on the 21st. Flew out of Vegas at 6:00a to Chicago, connecting flight to Lexington was cancelled, (slept on the floor at O'Hare) they had to wait for a bus that arrived in Chicago at midnight, finally arrived home 7:30a next morning. But the difference was probably the cake walk they had:D

I am very surprised that I am the first one to say this, but what happened with Mason Co. at the end of regulation? Catholic had just hit a three to tie it and Darius had the ball with 15 seconds to go, he dribbles past half court and waits until there is about 3 seconds left and shoots a 3. This was NOT EVEN CLOSE to the shot Mason Co. needed. O'Hearn should've called a timeout and set up something, or at least called a play from the bench that would lead to a better shot than a fadeaway three. You want the ball in Darius' hands in crunchtime but you have to want a better shot than that.

 

Its one thing to get beat by a good team, which Catholic is. Its something totally different to have the feeling that you had the game and let it slip away. Kudos to Lex Cath though.

 

Mason Co. just ran out of legs at the end. They have played 10 games in a little over 2 weeks and it eventually takes a toll on you. No shame in losing to Catholic on their home court in their tournament. Hopefully it will refocus the Royals, make them realize that even though they are a good team, they are not invincible. Alot of work needs to be done before tournament time.

I know it wasnt over when Mason was up by 13 at one point. I had to listen from work but it sounded like the Royals just were out of gas in the second half. Especially in the 4th. The free throws down the stretch were killer. Hats of to the Knights, can't wait until the rematch, since im off for that one. I think Mason will get them next time around. Great game once again from two fine schools.

Mason Co is still a favorite to win the State Tourney. Not only are they a great team, their kids are nothing but class. The rematch at Memorial Coliseum will be worth the price of admission for sure.

A couple of suggestions. When you're up by 7 and the defense is laying back in a zone, don't shoot 26-footers.

 

When you're up by 3 with 20 seconds to play and the ONLY WAY the opposition can get back in the game is to hit a 3, FOUL SOMEBODY. Mason County was on the positive end a few years back when Trinity didn't have the sense to foul and let the Royals back in the game. Mason County girls let one slip away a couple of years ago in the regional final the same way.

 

Good showing overall on the longest, toughest road trip for the Royals maybe ever. Congrats to the Knights on hanging in there and accepting the gifts that the Royals gave them.

 

Royals - remember what it feels like to be on the losing end in a tournament final - and don't let it happen again!

Congrats to the Knights for taking the win away from the Royals.LexCath didn't get there 1st lead of this game till the OT began the tie at the end of the game was as close as they got in Regulation.But they dominated in OT as Sanford had 10 straight points there at the end and beginning of OT.Very good ballgame to watch all though a little dishearting if your a Royals fan.I still firmly believe Mason is the best team in the state i wouldn't want to be Pendleton County on Wed when a rested up Royals squad finally returns home after 3 weeks of road trips.Again congrats to LC and well see you again soon.
