Fun game to watch. It was a great High School Basketball atmosphere. I love the passionate fans from Sandy Hook.

 

Looked to me like both teams missed their share of open looks. Elliott did not shoot as well as they have the two previous games I witnessed (every team has an off night), but could be due to the defense Cov Cath plays.

 

Biggest difference in this game compared to the teams Elliott has played is that Cov Cath really takes care of the ball. Not many easy baskets for Elliott after turnovers.

You might need to go to the eye doctor because CC didnt miss many at all

Elliott is better than they played tonight. The heart was there for them, but the shots just weren't falling. Ferguson came out playing with a purpose in the second half and showed why he is a great player. The younger Knipp could stand to play with a little more heart, but it must be hard playing with a group that has started so many games together. Plus he's a freshman dealing with being ranked nationally, that must be hard to deal with at such a young age. I'm sure he'll pick it up going forward, he's such a talent. When he plays on all out, like the rest of the team, they will be hard to beat. Every good team needs a loss to figure out what they are doing wrong. I can't wait to see Elliott bounce back against Rowan on the Jan. 4th. I'm sure they will be better for this experience.

Half of those teams have losing records.

Lafayette has been particularly awful.

Lou. St. Xavier is not so good either.

The Elliott County win is solid, but realistically many of their wins have been run up against 16th Region teams, and the 16th Region is probably one of the worst in the state.

 

Still a pretty solid schedule.

The wins over LexCath, Oak Hills, and Elliott are nice wins...even throw in a decent one against Franklin.

 

 

Calpreps has CovCath's schedule at the 4th toughest in KY right now.

Sometimes missing "open shots" is a result of having to work so hard against a team that plays constant pressure defense. That wears on you physically and mentally which can result in errant shots. Defense is not simply at the time of the shot. Good defense doesn't let you do what you want offensively without having to expend energy. I think that's what you saw in this game. Simply put, the continual effort on the defensive end won the game for CCH against a potent offense.

Elliott Co. used their bench more tonight than I have seen so far this year. If that tells you anything.

 

It tells me that they should have used the bench a little more in those blowout games.

 

A win is a win. Doesn't matter by how much. The key thing to remember is that its a long season and players need to stay healthy. Also bench players need to get used to being in the games. These are much more important then getting the big headline in the news.

I was at the game tonight, and I watched EC play all three games at LexCath. The only difference in tonights game was the "D" of CovCath compared to the other games. Think what you want to, but the "D" of CovCath and CovCath ability to not turn over the ball to EC for easy baskets, was the difference tonight. Do you really think that if you were playing one of the teams you put up 100 on from the 16th you would have been so off in your shooting? Come on sir, is it so tough to say you got beat by a very good team tonight, who plays a very tough brand of "D" night after night, and that just might had a part in your off night shooting? Look at the quality of the teams CovCath has played so far, and look at how few points they have given up to them.

 

CovCath "D" has given up the following.....

 

LexCath scored 57 in a loss

St. Henry scored 63 in a loss

Mason scored 66 in a win over CovCath at the Fieldhouse

Conner 53 in a loss

Ryle scored 53 in a loss

Cin Oak Hills 33 in a loss BTW per MaxPreps they are a top 25 Ohio team

Lafayette scored 65 in a loss in OT

Lou St. X scored 39 in a loss

Franklin Co. scored 51 in a loss

Elliott Co scored 62 in a loss

 

So CovCath has given up an average of 54.2 points per game against I might add one of the toughest schedule in the Commonwealth, but it had of course no effect on Elliott. Okay believe what you want but, don't try selling it to knowledgeable basketball fans.....

 

No, I'm not taking anything away from covcath they have a fine team and I wish them well. It was their ability to break the EC press and attack the basket with success after doing so along with their physical defense that won the ball game for them. But to say that EC didn't miss alot of open shots sir is simply not true. And fyi, I myself am a knowledgable basketball fan

Ok, thanks. I was thinking they would be playing for 5th place or something along those lines, but I see how it works now. I appreciate it.

If EC bench is not that good then why sub even in a blowout. You may need to get your five starters used to playing a whole game to toughen them up for those close games. If they had sub in those so called blowouts the starters would have been sitting in the 2nd quarter. That won't get you ready for a tough game.

Elliott was the only team in the winners bracket(8 teams) that played from 4:30 on yesterday that didn't get a bye!!!!
