Pete Rose: "Steroid users making mockery of todays game"

Featured Replies

"I never thought anybody would make me look like an altar boy," Rose said.

"I've been suspended 18 years for betting on my own team to win," he added. "I was wrong ... but these guys today, if the allegations are true, they're making a mockery of the game."

"If you're going to put these guys that supposedly did steroids into the Hall of Fame, I mean I've got to get a shot somewhere," he said.

Rose finished with 4,256 hits, breaking Ty Cobb's career record.

And if steroids were prevalent in his day?

"I would have got 5,000 hits," he said.

Just some of the better quotes from the article.

Problem is Pete, since no one can believe anything you say, we don't know what you were on either...

Pete Rose is the man..Love him or hate him, the man belongs in the hall of fame and it's sad that he isn't...

I've faught like crazy for Pete. I got put into the BluegrasPreps Hall of Fame back in the early years of this website for winninng the overall high school football contest. You got one quote to keep and mine was if Pete couldn't get in then I didn't want in either. The more he talks, the less I fight for him. It stinks he isn't in and I can understand why but think he has paid his dues. I think the message has been sent. I just wish he would shut up. I think he hurts himself more than anybody (other than Selieg).

Pete should be in the hall without a doubt and he didn't need steroids to do it.

I hate to do this, but I agree with you 100%. You get that many hits, you are a HOFer.

Exactly. It's sad to see Pete not in the hall..

I agree...:thumb:

His accomplishments are in the HOF. Him as a person/player is not. That is the way it should be.

I don't think that Rose making these comments helps his case for HOF at all. But very well may hurt it.

If that was the case, Babe Ruth needs to be removed fromt eh HOF immediately. The Hall of Fame is for baseball careers, not personalities. I think Rose is a HOFer.

Babe Ruth did not admittingly break a baseball rule that gets you banned from the game.

Listen, I absolutely believe that Pete deserves to be in the HOF because of his on the field accomplishments. Then again, nothing he has done since being banned from baseball can make anyone believe that he is truly remorseful. I want Pete to be in the HOF, but posthumously. That's one acceptance speech none of us want our kids to hear...

I don't know alot about Babe Ruth, that was just the first name that came to mind. My point was just that personalities shouldn't have anything to do with it. Even betting on baseball didn't have an effect on Rose's skills, though. Purely based on baseball talent and production, he has to be in the Hall.

And purely based on being a horse's hind quarters, he shouldn't be alive to enjoy it, IMO. Agree to disagree...
