Gambling nearly destroyed baseball in 1919--the integrity of the game came into question--which is why the gambling rule was/is posted in clubhouses. You can't have anyone (player, manager, officials, etc.) involved in gambling in your sport, for multiple reasons.

Steriods and HGH may effect the integrity of some of the records but it is not going to effect how someone plays the game as far as throwing a game.

Also, it is VERY obvious what the people in baseball think. They'll throw Pete out for life and turn their head on the problem of perfermance enhancers for years.

I was making a general reference in that statement but as far as Pete goes that's a joke. When he WAS betting on them how much harder did he try to win? Maybe he used his best relievers a little more or a little longer than usual. When he WASN'T betting on them, maybe he really didn't manage like it meant that much. Maybe he rested his starters on those days and didn't use his best relievers. So, essentially, a NON-bet was a bet against them or at least a sign of indifference. It totally compromises the integrity of the game...not to mention other problems that could arise because of his gambling problem.

Pete Rose was banned from baseball for claiming to hit a Homer Bailey fastball.

I don't know if anyone else pointed this out, but I find it ironic that Pete Rose comes out so adimit against steroid use and his son, Pete Rose Jr., appeared in both the Jason Grimsley affidavid and the Mitchell Report.

I'm not sure about that, but I heard him say in a interview once that he only bet on his team to win, never to lose....not that that makes it right.

 

Do you truly believe that??? W/ his track record, and his desire to always win, I guarantee you that he bet on who he thought would win.

Pete Rose IMO is all about himself.....I know he is everyone's boy but he makes Chad Johnson look unselfish (OK, maybe taking it too far). Everything is about him.

MLB has no integrity!!! Bud Selig and his good ole boy network knew all about the steriods. They didn't stop it because it SAVED the game. So if the game has no integrity and Pete has none, then they cancel each other out.
