I agree. They both may be stars. There's alot of potential and they should only get better. I also like the point guard, he's a nice player.

Their point guard is a great player. I like how he sees the floor and the confidene he has on the court. He is the single reason why they beat Ryle. One question, does Mason County build a lead in every game and then play that slow down style?

It is hard to play as intense as they do for 4 quarters without a quality bench that could fill in for a few minutes to give them a blow. IMO, they have one quality sub that comes in and there is no significant dropoff.

Mason County freshmen play Lex. Catholic @ Fieldhouse on Monday night. The start time is 6pm. There is a slight chance a jayvee game to follow.

Most don't turn 16 until after or during their sophomore season. Not a big deal and definitely not the only school to do it, my point is that by having older kids they have developed more experience. Carver and Setty were held back, I forget what grade, so that they could play with this group.

Carver and Setty started kindergarten the month after (August) they both turned 6 years old (July). If you ask any primary school teacher, it is not unusal to delay school for children, especially boys, who meet the school age requirement during the summer months. The parents (not any school) decided to delay the start of school for their sons and had no idea who they would play ball with (if they played ball at all) in high school when deciding to delay the start of school.

 

Setty moved from Ohio and came to Mason County School at the beginning of his 4th grade year.

I was pretty sure that Setty was not a "holdback" in the sense that most folks assume.

I had the chance to watch both Treg Setty and Neal Pawsat in both the JV MCIT on Saturday morning and then again in the Brossart-Mason County MCIT game on Saturday night and am duly impressed with both.

 

Treg Setty is certainly the premiere freshman, and right now Pawsat is dominating because of his size/maturity.

 

Setty will most certainly put ink in the Mason County hardwood history books alongside of his brother and I understand that Pawsat is the heir to the football Royals quarterback position, and will certainly make a major impact there.

 

As far as the age issue goes, as long as they don't turn 19 before August of their senior year they are perfectly legal and more power to them!

I get my information directly from the coaching staff. If I'm wrong, blame the staff but I would believe them over you.

What does it really matter? There's nothing anyone can do about it now, whether or not they were or weren't held back. They are freshman, and that's how it's gonna be for now.

The freshman now stand at 11-1 on the season. The freshman are in action Thursday night at Montgomery County. Game time is 6:30.

.....but freshmen ball means nothing...its a building block....that is all

 

A building block is very important to the success of a program down the road, the more kids play, the better they are. You can't replace game experience no matter what level it is played on. You can have your opinion, but my thoughts are if one is going to make this statement, they must not of had the oppotunity to play the game or play at a level where it mattered. Every year you play is important to the programs success as well as the development of the players. I will tell you this also, I follow basketball at all levels, and I am not a parent, just a basketball fan who likes to watch the success of kids.

 

 

Exactly...but getting caught up in how good the freshmen team is only marginally important. Varsity play is much different and they have to mesh as a team.

Sounds like you did very well in high school and then after you got to college you needed to develop a little more. That would have been the time to consider a red shirt year. When childen are in grade school or middle school, sports should not be the primary concern of the child or parent. Let the kids be kids and when they get more mature(college age) and they are good enough to go to the next level let them decide what they want to do.

 

Give me another year or two and I might have gone PRO. Didn't have red shirts back in those days, we wore black and gold.:lol:
