So what's your point? I'm sure they aren't the only school in KY that has 16 year old freshmen.

This group of freshman seems to be very highly thought of, particularly the three main players. Perhaps this has been answered previously, but why aren't these three getting some varsity minutes???

Takes a lot of nerve for a coach to bring a young boy up from 8th grade or 9th grade and give them varsity play over jrs and srs. Causes too much static from parents of the older boys. I admire coaches who have the nerve to do this. I'm a firm believer in playing the best you have regardless the grade level.

This is not true. All of the following starters on the freshman team will turn 16 during the summer or in their sophomore year as follows.

 

Carver - July '08

Gilbert - December '08

McBride - October '08

Pawsat - November '08

Setty - July '08

Most don't turn 16 until after or during their sophomore season. Not a big deal and definitely not the only school to do it, my point is that by having older kids they have developed more experience. Carver and Setty were held back, I forget what grade, so that they could play with this group.

No, actually I'd say the average sophomore turns 16 the summer before or during their sophomore year.. most do. At least pretty much all of the sophomores I know did. And if not, then they have their birthday the summer before their junior year, but they are considered young then. These kids are right on track with their age.

Come on here...a parent must have started this thread so they could see their kids name.

 

It will all come down to how these kids mesh on a varsity squad. Clark Co. has two freshmen playing up, so this Mason Co.bunch won't see them this year.....but they will.

 

There are other squads as well doing the same, also its amazing how much kids grow and mature....this bunch may have already matured.

 

Lets see how the region goes in the coming year.....but freshmen ball means nothing...its a building block....that is all.

A building block is very important to the success of a program down the road, the more kids play, the better they are. You can't replace game experience no matter what level it is played on. You can have your opinion, but my thoughts are if one is going to make this statement, they must not of had the oppotunity to play the game or play at a level where it mattered. Every year you play is important to the programs success as well as the development of the players. I will tell you this also, I follow basketball at all levels, and I am not a parent, just a basketball fan who likes to watch the success of kids.

You went all the way to NKY to watch the freshmen boys play in a tournament and you're not a parent, that is either dedication or insanity. Just kidding with you.

The maturity and strength between a 14 and a 15 or 16 year old freshman is considerable. But any parent that holds their child back a year just so can play sports is not thinking of the child just themselves.
