December 11, 200718 yr Sounds odd to me, I could see if you were on company grounds but not out to lunch.
December 11, 200718 yr 98, Are you guys role models? Everyone is a role model. Just depends on whether it is a bad or good role model.
December 11, 200718 yr Does your firm have an Employee Handbook, which addresses any issues regarding working hours, breaks and lunches. Also, you mentioned some were wearing company shirts and if so, are they representing themselves and your company, during lunch.
December 11, 200718 yr Let me just say this. I'm REAL glad that my work didn't know what I was doing while off the clock about 8 years ago... You talking about that night in Cincy at the karaoke bar when you were singing "Livin La Vida Loca"?

December 11, 200718 yr Given who you work for, absolutely they have to be overly sensitive of these types of moronic statements. You don't work for a private Company. There are MANY companies out there that will terminate an outside sales person for getting a DUI over a weekend. Not on the clock. Still terminated. Given who 98 works for I think it was ABSOLUTELY the prudent thing to do. People need to have more sense than that.

I just wasn't sure of the legality of it, and the person who said was all up in arms. (Not a friend of mine), so I was just curious.

December 11, 200718 yr It depends who you work for and it could and would be an integrity issue. I work for a bank and if I am out with co-worker's and said somthing like that I could be reprimanded do to it would be with co-worker's and someone in the group was offended by the comment and said somthing to the supervisor. Must watch what you say around co-workers my friend. JD
December 11, 200718 yr with some coworkers, someone said something inappropriate. Basically something about Mexicans and illegal aliens and what not, you get the drift. Well somehow, not by me, this got back to our supervisor and the person that said it was given a written reprimand. Can they do that? Is that legal? We were out on our lunch break away from our building and off the clock. I think the little weasel should have grown a pair, and told the un-PC co-worker that they thought the comments were inappropriate. Might have shut him up without anything else being done. Instead, you end up with speculation and hard feelings.

December 11, 200718 yr It is pretty hard to answer one way or the other without knowing who your employer is. I am not asking that you tell us that but it definitely plays into it.
