I think what it comes down to is, does anyone think BG will attract as many casual fans from the surrounding area than Louisville does? The diehards will go no matter where it is, IMO.

 

I agree with that..........you are going to have a lot more casual fans like college kids and football fans without a dog in the fight, for the simple fact Lexington or Louisville are easy to get to from just about anywhere in the state and there is a ton of places to stay and eat, not to mention more of a night life as well.

Being a WKY high school football fan, I think we have done plenty of traveling to Louisville year in and year out. Bowling Green is only 2+ hours from Mayfield. Im Likin it!!!!!

 

Also, I once heard that BG had the most restaurants in the nation, per capita. Im not saying that is a fact, but trust me, they have plenty of restaurants.

If the state championship games are moved to BG, then they will have to be able to change times of the games, IMO. Let's say, Beechwood and LCA play again next yr, that is asking alot for the team to travel 4 hrs to play at 11:30am..Beechwood met this yr at 7am which is still pretty early. Sure, they can go and spend the night but then you are looking at expenses. I don't care what school it is, the richest to the poorest, that is alot of money to be spending for a game. I hope UK gets turf, then I look for the games to be moved there.

Belfry and Russell has traveled a lot to Louisville too, so we should have it at Morehead St.

You will hardly get any sympathy from the west. The teams down here have been doing that routine (traveling the day before the game and staying in a hotel) for years.

You are exactly right. I have made the 3 1/2 - 4 hr trip on multiple occassions. My sympathies would be mostly with the teams from the Eastern portion of the state which are not as well connected as NKY/LOU.

I attended Western's Homecoming this year and many state finals for several years. Yes, Bowling Green could handle the crowds with the restaurants and its hotels. The huge problem is it takes a pretty good coordinated effort to move people out of one game at Western. How in the world could they handle the inflow and outflow of 6 games? The parking around the stadium for homecoming existed on campus property lawns for goodness sakes?! Are you serious about championships?

 

The simple fact is the city of Louisville handles the entire championship, a U of L basketball game, downtown events, etc. and does not miss a beat and no one gets in each other's way.

 

Put 6 games in Bowling Green over two days you will have an entire shutdown of the campus area and plenty of upset people.

 

Sorry Western folks your site is good for many things but the logistics for several games is not an answer and paying customers should not be put into that spot.

We are not talking about 40,000 people at every game here. The biggest, most attractive game of the playoffs was held during the finals, by two teams from Louisville and it only brought in a little over 16,000 people. Besides that game, the closest it would come to matching that amount would be half the number of fans.

 

I am not buying the drawing of "casual" fans either. These games probably bring in 80% which are fans of the school playing, 10% that are not going to miss it whereever it is in Kentucky, and MAYBE 10% "casual" fan. With the numbers go down a little??? Maybe so, but not as much as many make it seem. Each game is essentially a different crowd.

 

I am not as familiar with WKU's new setup as many; but, my biggest concern would be what fans do in between games in Bowling Green.

BG has all required accomadations for the games easily

For you maybe, EKU would be inferior in most of if not all of the major factors concerning this event
