Well there are a slew of resturants in Bowling Green... but you might be right about the hotels... Plus WKU's field is smack down in the middle of WKU's campus and people that arent familier with BG more then likely will get lost trying to get from WKU to Scottsville Rd, where a majority of the few hotels and resturants are.

WKU would be a perfect fit for the state championships after next season! I say that not only because I am a proud alumnus, but because many do not know that with the push to Division I Western's facilities will blow The Ville away! It will be much more accommodating for visiting fans and coaches. If location is the biggest reason to fuss I ask that you visit WKU's Athletic website at http://www.wkusports.com. Look at the football link and check out the upgrades. Think about accessibility in terms to stadium location. It would definitely be a longer trip for us but I believe that it would be worth the trip. GO TOPPERS!!! :dancingpa

There ya go! I'm not sure how much the parking garage next to the field holds. You'd think they'd have parking capacity for a sell out WKU game.. but you never know..

To be 100% honest, they need to stay in Louisville because that's closer for me than Bowling Green. And quite frankly, I don't care how far anyone else has to travel...

Stupid move.....you would have less casual fans, coaches, and students attend due to it being in Bowling Green.

Good point. I said EKU over WKU due to location only. The football finals are well suited for Louisville.

 

However, if UK goes to field turf it would be awesome.

 

As for the crowd, so what if 20,000 packed into EKU and onto the hill, etc....it would be exciting.

 

I like what GA does. They play the semi's in the Georgia Dome and then move the finals back to the high school fields.

 

Pretty exciting two/three days of football. You get more games and more fans on the big field and then the championship is played in more familiar grounds.

What is the head count at a typical championship game (outside of a X-Trinity game). 6 to 8 thousand? Don't think hotels or anything like that would be an issue, I would guess there are more people at a WKU homecoming than at most games.

 

What would be ideal is a 10,000 to 15,000 seat stadium. My thought would be Kentucky State should build a stadium of that size just for such an occassion (Alumni Stadium holds 7000). It would pump some much needed money into KSU's athletic's program and be held in the capital of the commonwealth. If Georgetown's Rawling Stadium could add in more seating to get it up to 12,000 (currently 5000) you could do 1/2 of the games at Frankfort and 1/2 at Georgetown thus minimizing hotel issues. They are w/ in 20 minutes of each other so going to all the games would be easy. I'd also bet you the hospitality in smaller venues would be greatly increased.

 

My thing is, high school football is best when you really feel like part of the game. Loud crowds, intimate settings and the like. These bigger stadiums are just too big (w/ attendance the way it is). Wouldn't it actually be great to sit in a sold out 10,000 seat stadium for a game. Right up in the action.

 

If that dog doesn't hunt then EKU's would still be a better choice than WKU's. WKU has put a ton into that facility, but it is still too big.

 

The issue is in the 6A games, but I would guess that X and Trinity fans sitting in a sold out 12000 to 15000 seat stadium would be a much better experience than a 1/2 sold out Papa Johns. Neither Louisville or UK (if they open up Commonwealth) need the funds as much as the other schools.

I beg to differ...there is ONE good reason for the move. PJCS might not be available. I think that's a pretty good one.

 

If the Big East won't relent, then, unless I'm misreading it, there are two options. Push it back one more week (a bye week after the semi's) OR find a new venue.

 

I guess we could move it next door to the Fairgrounds. The coaches could still get to enjoy the stay in the Ville. Plenty of parking, not to mention the hotels. And the field surface....oh my!!

I am a northern Kentuckian. I enjoy the ride to Louisville and in most instances, I really enjoy the trip back to Fort Thomas! Going to Louisville has been a long time tradition for most storied programs. I have been to EKU for a championship game - my vote goes to Louisville. In fact, I would take Louisville over UK! UK is too big and the ride is too short! :thumb:

The Old Fairgrounds Stadium is potentially scheduled for demolition in 2008 and 2009, depending on the state budget approved for State Fair Board.

 

Other alternative which KHSAA does not like is to go to mutliple sites , as done in the 60s and 70s.

I have a suggestion for the conflict with the Big East. Play the Louisville game on Thursday. They already play a lot of games on Thursday. The conflict is only every other year. Moving out of Louisville would hurt the turnout.
