Again, I think, unless the Big East provides flexibility, we are stuck with a venue outside of Louisville. (but, I'd like to keep the KENTUCKY High School Athletic Association championships in the state of Kentucky, not move it to Ohio)

If UK got turf and closed off all endzones and upper levels then the place would feel like a boom zone for a football game. Crowd explosions packed into a smaller atmosphere. I don't think UK is getting turf if so, no time soon. However, I hope it stays in Louisville. I'd just like to see 3 days of football with 2 games each day.

Belfry and Russell has traveled a lot to Louisville too, so we should have it at Morehead St.

Haven't thought of that but it sounds like a better idea to me...2 on Thurs, 2 on fri and 2 on sat... You would think the KHSAA and the city would like it as well being as alot of folks would stay 3 nights vs 1 or 2 with the current alignment. It's all about revenue and you would think that that certainly would increase it...:ylsuper:

I attended Western's Homecoming this year and many state finals for several years. Yes, Bowling Green could handle the crowds with the restaurants and its hotels. The huge problem is it takes a pretty good coordinated effort to move people out of one game at Western. How in the world could they handle the inflow and outflow of 6 games? The parking around the stadium for homecoming existed on campus property lawns for goodness sakes?! Are you serious about championships?

 

The simple fact is the city of Louisville handles the entire championship, a U of L basketball game, downtown events, etc. and does not miss a beat and no one gets in each other's way.

 

Put 6 games in Bowling Green over two days you will have an entire shutdown of the campus area and plenty of upset people.

 

Sorry Western folks your site is good for many things but the logistics for several games is not an answer and paying customers should not be put into that spot.

 

If this really is a serious debate, try this - Paul Brown Stadium.

 

I have suggested PB on other posts regarding locaton of the championship games. I have been to numerous high school games at PB. PB simply attracts football fans. PB would attract more than 10% casual fans. Cincinnati supports high school football. Besides, northern Kentucky has the rooms, eateries and attractions, (LN's Woodford sipp'n on the lawn) - and PB has the tailgating areas. Let's face it, it will be years and years before Cincinnati gets a pro football playoff contest! If UK can come to Cincinnati to play basketball why can't Kentucky HS football come to PB for championship action? I'm tell'n ya - the crowds would be HUGE! HUGE!

I agree Paul Brown Stadium is one of the best venues to watch a football game. But Kentucky would become the National Laughing Stock of High School Football. Who in their right mind would agree to play the KENTUCKY State Football Championship game in Ohio. Seriously, think about it?

I agree with you 100%. But if Papa Johns can not host the premier highschool sporting event in Kentucky for one year - PB would be a nice alternative for everyone, including the athletes. If Papa Johns is not an option for the next several years... then I would agree UK, WKU or Georgetown would be the next options.

Next year the State Finals are still going to be in Louisville. After that point PJCS May not be available because of scheduling problems with the Big East. So until we hear back from the big East and UL it is too early to worry about moving the games. But Right now the only other possible Stadium and surface would be Western Kentucky. With the expansion that is currently underway the stadium will be a great fit for the event but it may be a little far for some to travel. What other options do you suggest ?

I wouldn't think UK or Georgetown is an option at all, untill field turf is install. WKU is the about the only option. Morehead State, or Murray State could handle it, but location hurts.

Ok I have thought and thought about the travel time to Bowling Green. I drive to Nashville 3-4 times a month for work so I drive the Cumberland Parkway very often. From London, Kentucky you could be in Bowling Green in a est. time of 2hrs. by traveling HWY 80 to Somerset, Cumberland Pky, and I65. London to Louisville is about the same amount of time.

 

Give or take a few minutes Corbin, Middlesboro, or any other Mtn. team that travels through London would be close to the same driving time to either location. You can't please the entire state but I see no better place than WKY to host the State Championships if Louisville can't hold them.

No It's grass at Georgetown and I wouldn't think would hold up for 6 games in 2 days..

Nope ,best I know they have grass ,unless has been added since Boone Co. played Scott Co. a couple years back at G-Town in the state semis.

I think right in the middle of the state is the place they should be. I think that here in Ohio too but GOD know Columbus can't put the right package together to get it done.
