NCC Coach Schneider to Retire???

Featured Replies

From watching from the stands the last couple of years, it looks like Coach Schneider does very little in-game coaching. No doubt he is the emotional leader and the figure head of the coaching staff, but I haven't seen him being actively involved in game management at all. Is that accurate to say?

Isn't his son the OC? If he is interested in the job, would he stand a chance of getting it? If so, that would keep this successful staff in tact, even without the very well respected Coach Schneider.

I for one would love Schneider JR get the job but have heard that he doesn't meet the minimal requirements to be a head coach. I personally think he is one of the sole reasons for their success the past couple of years.Come on now, how do you pretty much get your brains beat in by Beechwood and some other bigger schools in the area to being highly competitive. I have heard that as long as Senior is the coach that the Breds would not ever play the Birds ever again. Maybe, just maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel after all.

Can we maybe not try to turn this thread into a Highlands one?

Sure!!!!

I think he will be back for at least one more season.

98 and others, is ^this statement fair?

 Ok then back on the topic of who might replace Coach Schneider if he does choose to retire? Any thoughts??;)

Coach Wagner would be my bet.

That is a fair assessment. That is exactly how Coach Perry did it at Hanover as well. Make the crucial decisions, but let your coaches coach.

In the interview with Channel 19, he retired and came back in the same interview. Said at the beginning, he was probably done but finished the interview saying it was emotion talking and he would probably be back.

He's definitely making decisions, no doubt, but I'd say it's a fair assessment, yes.

He is still very active in practices.

That was my read on it also LBBC. I know he was totally dejected right after the game. My guess is that he'll be back unless he felt he was going to lose some of his key coaches, which I don't think is the case.

Will Bob leave with the cupboard full or empty? Does he leave on a rebuilding year? I guess we will see.

He was on the local news Saturday after the game, and the reporter asked if he was going to retire. His response was basically (not a direct quote), "right now I'd probably say yes, but that would be based solely on emotion. I'll go home and think about it, but I've got a QB and RB coming back next year, so I'll probably be back too."

If I had to guess, I would say that he stays one more year and then turns the head coaching job over to Coach Wagner!!!

Trying to speculate on many random thoughts in this thread:

1. Coach Schneider does not do as much in game coaching as before because he has an O-cord. in his son and a D-cord. in Wagner.

2. His son is more of a Xs and Os design guy and behind the scenes guy who puts in long hours and not someone IMO who wants to be a head coach with all that entails.

3. D-Cord. Wagner is my guess to be the next coach. He has nearly all his public school pension time in and would be one to stick around awhile.

4. Don't know about the Highlands/NCC match-up ever. When Highlands dropped NCC for other non-district opportunites (such as Elder at PBS) it was the best decision for their program at the time. Remember it was late 90s and NCC had two losing seasons and Highlands was chasing mythical national championships. Playing Cincinnati teams was the only way to accomplish that. However, it is no secret that the decision did not sit well with Coach Schneider who did not want the series to end.

5. NCC will be good again next year with 23 Seniors next year including the QB and RB. The Junior class next year is on the low side with 10 and 9 are lineman. The Soph class next year is deep (22) and very talented especially at the skill positions and only lost 1 game by 1 point as Frosh. The JR high team had an extremely large number of players and they will be joined by some key Red Devils next year as Frosh. So whether he returns or not I have no idea, but whoever coaches should be okay for the next few years.
