Bud Mackey on the move

Featured Replies

Looks like County Attorney was the one that wasn't included in this little move....lets just say he's not happy, he has sent out a couple of summons, next court date to determine if bond will be revoked is Tuesday. I am sure Mr. Mackey will have to be present as well!

That was a good person to leave out of the plans.

So was Mackey ever actually expelled from school? I never heard yes or no. When I was in high school we had this happen a couple of times and the kids were never expelled. They would be suspended for like a week, then sent to Recovery and Day Treatment School for a couple months and were able to come back if things went okay out there. Does Scott Co. have a policy on this situation? Of course it was never crack cocaine, it was always marijuana, but drugs are drugs.

Mackey was never expelled, just not allowed to be on school grounds 24/7, this is why he was meeting with a home school teacher at the library to finish out (I hope they lift the ban so he can play in alumni games.......) Scott County does have a policy for all students caught with drugs, they face a 10 day suspension and can't come back to school until they have had an expulsion hearing with the board of edu. Scott County is in the grassroots (no pun intended) of starting to drug test athletes and have had a couple of informative meetings on a new drug policy for when a student athlete tests positive, support is mixed. Some say it costs too much and only encourages students to do "harder" drugs that aren't tested, some are in 100% support. I think if they drug test the students then they should also drug test extra curricular coaches....but I'm sure that wont fly.

Will he be eligible to play the remainder of the season?

The judge just ruled Mackey could attend Harmony Prep in Cincinnatti. He could stay there with grandmother through the week and in Lexington with grandpa on weekends. I didn't catch weather or not he would be eligible to play basketball.

I've been told he is cleared to play...

Good deal! I hope this kid can turn his life around.

I think this will be good for Mackey. Hopefully he has learned his lesson and gets on the right track. He needs to keep his nose clean and not hang out with the wrong crowed. I do hope Cronin gives him a look as you have mentioned before. One mistake in a young mans life does not mean he should not get another chance.

Wasnt Mackey supposed to have played this past Saturday? Did he play?

According to the Herald Leader, he dressed and warmed up, but didn't play. I don't want to assume it was because of the oustanding hearing coming up, but you never know.

I watched alittle of this on the news last night, good for Mackey to be able to go to school in Ohio. What struck me as funny for a person in this type of trouble in the first place, was the big mohawk hair style he wore to court, to go along with his suit coat.

I also thought that the hair was a little odd. Also he acted a little arragant. IMO

If he wasn't going to already he is doing all he can to get jail time.

That what I was thinking as well, he seems to be getting a redo on his school career and his attitude came across as what ever.
