Lone Oak, what is the deal?

^ That's ok....I am not trying to win a popularity contest. I feel that to really start getting hyped, and then fire a blank like they did, they are subject to criticism. Most of us who know a lot about football, felt they would get exposed sooner or later. Granted it came later, but it did indeed happen. I wish the kids at Lone Oak well from here on out.

I'm assuming you don't mean it the way it sounds, but it "sounds" like you're one of the few who know a "LOT" about football. I don't think you have to be Nostradamus to look at the records of these teams' opponents, their schedules, and then the players to assess the outcome. Trust me, I've seen plenty over the years, and knew that a Lone Oak victory was not to be anything short of Divine intervention. Lone Oak would have had to play their best game of the year, and LC would have had to fall apart, and even then, am not sure Lone Oak could have won this game. My issue was the "fraudulent" comment about their achievments, which I still think, was out of order. Being hyped, and firing a blank, there's no argument there. They're not the first to do it, and won't be the last.

The 02 Corbin team and the 01 and 02 Rock teams were probably even more out matched. Neither program had a hint of a chance in the finals.

A lot of the time it has to do with matchups. The 2002 Corbin team was not real strong, but they would have given Russell a competitve game if Russell would have held on on beat Breathitt Co. in the semis. Corbin did not play a team with any kind of passing attack in the playoffs that year(beat Bardstown, Larue Co. and Webster Co. in the playoffs) or they would have lost out much earlier.

Corbin was extremely young and inexperienced that year, they were intimidated and everything that could go wrong did...........much like what Lone Oak experienced.

I was really surprised by your "fradulent" comment. Lone Oak beat some very fine teams this year, especially in the playoffs. The way LexCath beat Bell Co, Harrison Co and Lone Oak, we can safely say that they are by far the best 4A team in the state. No one else is close. Getting beat by one of the state's best teams makes you neither weak nor a fraud. The kids at Lone Oak deserve a lot better than your garbage statement, whether you wish them well or not. They were "exposed" as one of the best 4A teams in the state, after many people picked them to lose to Calloway Co in the 2nd round.:fight:

Haha, not to laugh at your expense titletownclown but that was pretty darn funny.

You have my full permission to laugh at my expense. That's why I posted it.

This is off subject, but is Robinson going to play football anywhere? His numbers throughout the year were ridiculous.

Jack Haskins in shorts on a day like this?

Jack put his foot in his mouth on that one. After his team won their first 5 or 6 games he said that he would wear shorts until they lost. LOL. Jack is old and I am surprised that he hasn't got sick by now. :D

Congrats to Lone Oak on a great year.

To the question of Lone Oak, here is the deal. This threads very nature comes across as a slam on Lone Oak and that is a shame. Lone Oak entered the season flying under the radar, they played a so so regular season schedule for a team that advanced as far as they did. But look at it from their position, here is a team that is improving under a new coach and clearly making progress in the right direction. Last year they had a few suprising wins over decent teams and narrowly missed the playoffs. This is a program that has seen winless seasons and has long been the butt of many jokes, everyones first call for filling in the home coming slot. A program that to improve and get the kids out and the community support that needed to take baby steps. There is no way that anyone at Lone Oak could have imagined that this team would end up playing for a state championship or how well this team would have improved over the course of this season and that would include the Lone Oak coaches. As it turns out they came together and went beyond anyones expectations. It would not have mattered who they scheduled, they were not going to overcome Lexington Catholic's giant advantages in talent and in experience but no one else was going to either from the west. I do think NB or WE would have matched up better with LC personel but neither would have been able to come close to playing with them. For Lone Oak just reaching this level is a achievement that is bigger for their program than words can explain. The rewards from this season will pay huge dividens for a program that has all the ingredients to become a contender but needed confidence more than anything else. In the past Lone Oak lost talented kids to the likes of Paducah Tilghman and others because they have been so bad for so long. That trend should now end and Lone Oak is a growing community that is abound with supporters who are eagar to do alot of the entangables that are important to getting a program going. With Haskins committed to staying a few more years as coach, the young talent that appears to be in the wings (their frosh and middle school programs this year were very good) and the community support, this season should be what was need to finally get the Purple Flash Program out of the cellar.

Good deal, maybe now Lone Oak will schedule Mayfield.

Good deal, maybe now Lone Oak will schedule Mayfield.

It would make sense since they are so close to each other geographically

Lone Oak, was not the better team this day and instead of questioning them, why not give credit to Lex. Catholic, for their preparation, scheme and ability to get the job done.

If you watch, play or around football enough, one will see games that end in scores like this but not indicative, of Lone Oak's ability. I've seen them play via the stream, on several occasions and they were very impressive offensively.

Obviously, LC was able to neutralize them in the game. Lone Oak got the job done all year, advanced in the playoffs and earned the right, for the title game. Lex. Catholic may win 10, in a 10 game series if they played but that doesn't take anything away, from Lone Oak and their team.

LexCath's strength defensively all year has been their ability to pressure the passer. Most teams are able to counteract this by running the ball effectively. When I saw that lone Oak passes 90% of the time I thought this might be a blowout. If LO could have delayed the rush somehow, they could have given us fits since our secondary wasn't as strong as recent years. In other words, Lone Oak had the perfect scheme for a blowout by the LexCath defensive strength.

In answer to the question, what's the deal?

The deal is the team went 14-1 and made it to the championship game. Let me give you the addresses of a hundred or so KY football schools that would like to be able to say that.

The lone reason for the lopsided score was soley, line play. C-Rob was running for his life, had he had, say Ft Campbells offensive Line, they still would have lost but they would have probably only lost by say 21, but LC's lines were crazy sick and I'm not sure anyone else saw it but #22 for LC was lighting people UP on kickoffs, if you watch the replay, he was the one right by the kicker on every play, kid played with tons of enthusiasm!

that '02 game, and in the recent past I'd have to say Waggener in 1998 and Rockcastle in '01 and '02 were at least as badly overmatched, if not more so.

I will agree with Rockcastle being overmatched but nowhere near weak. Boyle County was OUTSTANDING

And, i dont agree with the Rockcastle statements. They always had to go through Northern Kentucky and Bell County to get to the finals.
