Your premise may be correct, but there have been blow outs like this from time to time in the past when there were only 4 classes.

I'm guessing that this is the first time you have seen LOne Oak play this season? I didn't see the game, but even in listening, if this was my first exposure to Lone Oak, I might think that they were a weak team that had no business there, so I understand how you might think they way you do. This is not the first time a team has ever been blown out in a title game. It even happens in the Super Bowl. Does that mean they don't deserve to be there? Ask Warren East or North Bullitt if they think LO is a weak team.

FOotball is a game of matchups, and Lone Oak did not match up with LC, and I don't think there's a team locally here that would. Robinson is still a fantastic quarterback, and if he had more time to throw, he would have proven that fact. His numbers this season were from 14 games, where for the most part only played 3 quarters. His numbers could have been much higher if that was all Lone Oak coaches were concerned with. As great as Tim Couch was, when his Leslie Co team played HOpkinsville in 95, the Tigers brought the house on every play, and Couch barely had time to even take the snap. 63-0, Hoptown final. Could you say that Couch was not a great quarterback? Probably if you only focus on that one performance, but we all know otherwise.

I don't believe in making excuses, LC was the better team and proved it. LO coaches knew that before the game, this challenge was the greatest of the season. But for a team that just 6 years ago only scored 19 points in a single season when going 0-10, to make it to a state title game this season, is remarkable. You didn't see the best Lone Oak had to offer in this game, and Lone Oak's best would not have beaten LC, but it would have been more interesting.

I saw some of the LO players after the game and told them to hold their heads up. Hard to say a team is the weakest ever. 14-1 is 14-1 no matter how you slice it. Just getting there is a great accomplishment.

Yes....in hindsight, Lone Oak was borderline fraudulent in their ability. Granted they beat almost everyone who lined up against them, however, it was shown that there was no competition whatsoever......

 

 

They DID beat everyone who lined up against them before the title game. I'm sure the teams from Warren East and North Bullitt appreciate your insight. Look at the pass completion percentage for Robinson. As coach Haskins put it earlier in the season, most teams couldn't complete that number against air. Agreed, they ran into a much better team in LC, but your statement is too generalized, and the "fraudulent" comment is uncalled for.

^ That's ok....I am not trying to win a popularity contest. I feel that to really start getting hyped, and then fire a blank like they did, they are subject to criticism. Most of us who know a lot about football, felt they would get exposed sooner or later. Granted it came later, but it did indeed happen. I wish the kids at Lone Oak well from here on out.

1st Congrats to Lexington Catholic, they were definetly a better team than Lone Oak & deserved the 4A Championship. Lone Oak was beaten in every phase of the game yesterday. However, they still can hold their heads up high & be proud of their achievement this year (14-1). The future looks bright for Lone Oak & they just have to work that much harder to have another shot at the championship.

One game doesnt really say much about a teams ability. Lone Oak had 14 great games and 1 game where they didnt match up well. I remember in 03 when Highlands lost to Boyle 44-10 in the Finals while in the regular season they only lost by 1 to Boyle. And, i dont agree with the Rockcastle statements. They always had to go through Northern Kentucky and Bell County to get to the finals.

No one is mentioning the obvious.

 

Lone Oak was outmanned, for sure, but there's NO WAY the final score is indicative of the difference between the two.

 

IMO, Lone Oak probably wasn't prepared for their FIRST appearance int he State Final. When a team that's already outmatched comes in and isn't on its game (due to the BIGGEST stage), it's going to look much worse than it might otherwise.

 

Sometimes a lesser team can pull an upset. This is nothing more than the flipside of that: the lesser team came in and laid an egg.

 

Though I'm sure its coaches/players/fans don't see it yet, this has been a great year for Lone Oak football.

Lone Oak did what they were supposed to do. They beat the teams on their side of the bracket. Somewhere there is a perception that both sides of the bracket are supposed to be balanced. It's simply not that way. It rarely is in the lower classes. I don't think anyone will argue that the best 4-5 teams in 4A came from the same side of the bracket. When there is an unbalance like this, what happens Saturday happens from time to time. Same thing happened in 2A between Breathitt County and Corbin a few years back. Western Kentucky (old) 4A/(new) 6A goes through this every year.

 

I really don't think this score shocked anyone. Everyone knew LexCath was the best team by far Lone Oak had faced this year. I don't think Saturday's loss diminishes their season one bit. Blowouts happen in the finals from time to time, but the Flash beat the teams they were supposed to beat to get there.

To the question of Lone Oak, here is the deal. This threads very nature comes across as a slam on Lone Oak and that is a shame. Lone Oak entered the season flying under the radar, they played a so so regular season schedule for a team that advanced as far as they did. But look at it from their position, here is a team that is improving under a new coach and clearly making progress in the right direction. Last year they had a few suprising wins over decent teams and narrowly missed the playoffs. This is a program that has seen winless seasons and has long been the butt of many jokes, everyones first call for filling in the home coming slot. A program that to improve and get the kids out and the community support that needed to take baby steps. There is no way that anyone at Lone Oak could have imagined that this team would end up playing for a state championship or how well this team would have improved over the course of this season and that would include the Lone Oak coaches. As it turns out they came together and went beyond anyones expectations. It would not have mattered who they scheduled, they were not going to overcome Lexington Catholic's giant advantages in talent and in experience but no one else was going to either from the west. I do think NB or WE would have matched up better with LC personel but neither would have been able to come close to playing with them. For Lone Oak just reaching this level is a achievement that is bigger for their program than words can explain. The rewards from this season will pay huge dividens for a program that has all the ingredients to become a contender but needed confidence more than anything else. In the past Lone Oak lost talented kids to the likes of Paducah Tilghman and others because they have been so bad for so long. That trend should now end and Lone Oak is a growing community that is abound with supporters who are eagar to do alot of the entangables that are important to getting a program going. With Haskins committed to staying a few more years as coach,the young talent that appears to be in the wings (their frosh and middle school programs this year were very good) and the community support, this season should be what was need to finally get the Purple Flash Program out of the cellar.

Certain classes are always going to be a a disadvantage in some areas of the state. This is a natural result of the demographics and school sizes.

Yes, he is. He's an outstanding coach of football fundamentals and did a great job in P-burg.
