To have a run like the mid-90's team is magical and only happens in the NCAA on a very seldom basis.

 

Enjoy it. Remember it fondly. BUT DON'T COMPARE the next 10-15 years to it because it took UK 40 years to repeat it the first time they did it.

I have yet to mention a 90's team in any of my posts. So only a national title means a team has produced. What a load of garbage.

Are we using the NBA to guage sucess now?

That's not a fight for Tubby vs. say, Pitino.

The same talent you mentioned could make the NBA easier now than then based on a lot more teams. Guys that did not make the cut then could make it. possibly, now.

We could sit and fight out should've, could've. would've all night.

Was Kemp not supposed to become a Cat? Sampson was well on his way and wavered at the last minute.

We have to deal with the here and now, and it's a part of the NCAA game now (early departures) and has been for some time. Definitely since Tubby has been a head coach. All the big time programs lose players every year, but still manage to put a quality and talented team on the floor. Why couldn't we? Look at the programs that lost players early the last few years and were right back the next year. It's recruiting to the present. It's how you have to play the game now. It may not be right, but it's how you succeed.

Tubby just did not do it or chose not to.

I will agree with you that Tubby's system DOES NOT match up with UK's need to have talent that is so great, they are going to want to bolt after a year or two as Morris and Rondo did.

 

Tubby's system is best with players that are intelligent and will stay for 4 years as with Hayes, Daniels, Bogans, Prince, Fitch, etc, etc.

 

For what UK fans THINK this team should be, a place a great talent comes in and stays for a year and then bolts, Tubby is not the right coach.

 

Tubby was not the right coach for UK in regards to what the fans want.

 

In regards to NBA, you were the one who said UK is loaded, LOADED with talent ALL THE TIME. If it is LOADED with talent, than I would make the logical assumption that many of those players went on to at least PLAY in the NBA. Not be stars, but at least PLAY. MAKE A TEAM.

 

The years that you are giving as LOADED WITH TALENT, are not years that they had many players that could MAKE A NBA TEAM.

 

The mid-90's team that had so many players go on to MAKE A NBA TEAM is an aberration to the UK history.

Let me add that the mid-90's is a special UK memory for me. And I feel privilege that I was old enough to truly remember it.

 

Runs like that only happen every so often. KY has had two in close to 70 years.

 

UCLA had a pretty nice one.

 

San Fran had one and then ended up dropping their program.

UC had a great one and have not come close to matching it in the past 40-50 years.

Duke had a nice one and has came close but not matched it.

 

It is special. Enjoy it but don't let it ruin the next 10-15-20 years of rooting for UK.

Understand while it is good to strive for that run again, don't be disappointed when it doesn't happen.

There was an incredible ammount of talent there, even for an ignoramous like me who can't count, apparently. I use words like Loaded and don't remember doing it. Silly Me.

Re-read all my posts. Post #55 I used the term Loaded, and Not Once was the "all the time" on there.

I don't chime in often, but you can't blame this on Tubby, I think Gillespie has stated this is the most talent he has had on a team, but yet no enough to beat GW. Tubby won games we was supposed to win, and lost ones he was supposed to. College ball has changed in the past 10 years, and UK has been missing 2 starters for the most of the season. This team would be a different team, so don't blame tubby, don't blame Gillespie, he needs time for his system and hopefully it works out in the end.

It will take some time, but if the talent was really here to start with, this thread would not exist!

You want to see a coach leaving a program in shambles, watch UC...

As far as your last post, you listed 6 players in the 80's as proof of loaded.

 

I have higher standards than that for UK for a 10 year period.

 

You can list 6 players of the 2000's that had equal to better careers than the players that you listed, with the exception of Walker.

Tubby did leave this program in shambles. Tubby is the reason that this team has 0 (zero) juniors. Honestly, put Tubby in the same situations that BCG is in. Do you actually think he would do better? And I know HT, you think we would have had Jia Lucas if Tubby stayed. But you know what, its just another guy that UK had to "wait on". UK shouldn't have to "wait on" anyone. There is too much too sell at UK. BCG will have us back in contention in a year or two and yes I'm giving him that much time to fix up another man's mess.

One of the points that was being made was that throughout the years of UK basketball, we have had talented (I hope I am using the correct term here) UK teams. My point was that one of the reasons for that was that players did not bolt after their freshmen, sophomore, junior seasons as they do now.

 

I went on to point out that Tubby's system works best when he has jrs and srs that have been in the program for awhile. Think Prince/Bogans and Hayes/Daniels as examples.

 

UK's fans today only want the big name recruits that are going to look to bolt after a year or two. Rondo/Morris.

 

I concede that with what the UK fans want, Tubby is not the right coach for UK.
