Would a team with Rondo, Meeks, Jasper, Patterson, Morris starting, with Crawford and the rest coming off the bench have a chance to compete for the national title?

 

I will agree with you that Tubby's system DOES NOT match up with UK's need to have talent that is so great, they are going to want to bolt after a year or two as Morris and Rondo did.

 

Tubby's system is best with players that are intelligent and will stay for 4 years as with Hayes, Daniels, Bogans, Prince, Fitch, etc, etc.

 

For what UK fans THINK this team should be, a place a great talent comes in and stays for a year and then bolts, Tubby is not the right coach.

Tubby the coach was a decent man and beat the teams he should beat with the talent he went after.

Tubby the recruiter had no idea which way to go or how to get there.

If he knew 3-4 year players were what he needed to win, why go after stop-over guys?

He would surely know that the talent that was there for a year or two was just stopping by and would have tried to get replacements. We kept backing up Moriss with Alyne, Carter and an out of position Woo.

UK has ONLY HAD THAT TYPE OF TALENT in two 3 year runs. Late 40's. Mid 90's. THAT IS IT.

 

You might not want to admit it but those years are aberration in UK history and NOT THE NORM.

 

For the remainder of the 60some years of UK history, they have had similar talent to what they have now with Jasper and Meeks not injured and Legion's mom not messing up his UK time.

60's happen today with today's fans and Rupp is fired. He had very mediocre talent in the 60's, especially early 60's.

Still more talent, based on that time, than what we have now.

with 3 NCAA appearances in that time span with no Final 4 appearances.

 

Remember Tubby was hammered after averaging 26 wins a season in his 10 years.

Great players like Freddie Cowan, Lavon Williams, Bret Bearup, Chris Gettlefinger, Bo Lanter, Charles Hurt, Derrick Hord, Tom Heitz, Roger Harden, Troy McKinley, Chuck Verderber.

 

Yeah those are great talents. They were good role players that had star players that played up to their reputations.

 

UK rep players are not playing up to their reputations with the LONE exception of Patterson and the injured Meeks and Jasper.

And then there was Rupp...

AND was ran off from the program he built for it.

AND it was harder to get into the NCAA then.

AND most of the 26 wins came against questionable scheduling.

 

We're in trouble right now and it will take time to right the ship. Bad recruiting and bad recruiting over an extended time without getting the players that would help is why we are where we are.

The question is not where we have been, what we have done in the last 50 years or anything else.

Black and white, it is why is our program in such bad shape, and, even with the injured players, it's because of poor recruiting by Tubby and his staff. Finger points at the man who built the bulk of the talent left on the roster without the freshmen. New coach has to work with what is left for him, and what was left for him was shabby, undisciplined and out of shape. There was no guidance and the new system is a shock to the ones who had done anything they felt like for so long.:walk::walk::walk:

Before watching today game I believed Tubby should find new employment, but after watching the game, Tubby left the UK Basketball program in Shambles. Not one of Tubby's recuit contributed anything to the game today. Patterson was the best UK player on the floor and he belongs to Billy G. Tubby wanted to recuit Defense and it showed as we did not have one legit scoring threar on the floor. If I am Billy G, I would not bring back Meeks and Jasper and blow a year of eligible on this team. They automatically makes UK better if the future. Remember, this is one of the major reasons OTS did not want a certain Tennessee guard because ots did not belive in recuiting offensive players, especially shooters. Don't get the wrong idea, this is not a Lofton grip, just very mad where OTS left my UK team. :mad::mad::mad:

 

Tubby was the reason Patterson was interested in Kentucky to begin with. Do you remember whem Tubby resigned? Patterson was going to knock UK off of the list until Gillispie came. Lucas probably would have came to UK if Tubby would have stayed.

I guess you are dismissing the class of Dan Issel, Mike Pratt, amd Mike Casey. Still the most talented UK class ever. Probably would have won a national title in 1970 if not for Casey's broken ankle.

And the class of Jack Givens, James Lee, Mike Phillips, and Rick Robey won a national title, an NIT when it still meant something, advanced to a national title game, and lost a regional final to Nothe Carolina.

Does not sound like an aberration to me.
