December 5, 200718 yr I'll be very shocked if Homer is dealt. That being said, his off-the-field attitude has rubbed a LOT of people within the organization the wrong way. Truth be told, I'm not sure the Reds have stock-piled enough talent to start making baseball decisions based on non-baseball issues, but maybe they see the Bengals' debacle and want to err on the side of caution. Like I said, I think it is doubtful. I agree with GT (and others) that he is far more a thrower than a pitcher. However, like was also said, I'm not sure that can't be fixed. I do believe the off-the-field stuff is why you see his name floating around. Nothing overly dramatic, just not a good guy.
December 5, 200718 yr We discussed in another thread, not bringing him up when they did. The mental focus and aspects of pitching, is tremendously demanding. I don't see the Reds actually trading him, even if he's discussed in possible deals. I can easily see, other MLB teams inquiring but that doesn't translate, to the Reds seriously offering. He needs more time, polish, command and experience.

I think the problem with that is the Reds always have a "prospect" in the minors. Who usually throws his arm out or never makes it. Until Harang we really haven't had an "ace" in recent years. If you can deal a guy like Bailey who has questionable "stuff" for a proven guy I think you have too. I like Bailey but I agree with the others, I really don't know about his 2nd/3rd pitches. This team has been losing for a while. Reds can't expect to put anyone in the seats if they continue on the 5 year plan and were a contender.

I have to strongly disagree. IMO this team is a starting pitcher (#2) away from being one of the best teams in the NL. The offensive is very good and with a guy like Bedard they pitching looks a lot better. We have sured up our Bullpen woes for the most part now we need a starting pitcher. We have been building for the future for a while now. It's very obvious Wayne knows what he is doing with our Minor leaguers. How long has it been since we had so many hot prospects that everyone wants to get their hands on? Now it's time to move some of them for what we need NOW. Bob made it clear that this team is being assembled to win now with the signing of Cordero.

I've read all of the threads, blogs, and the fluff and after the day of surfing and reading, arguing with sticky (which was the highlight for me sticky:rolleyes:) I think that I have changed my stance. Crud, I want to win ASAP. Sell who you will, let's git-r-done and do what we have to to put the best team we can on the field. Everyone is fair game. We lead the league in runs scored and can't sniff the post season. Let's get some starters. Heck we live in a drive thru world, I have no patience, and I don't want to be a Yankee fan. Trade, sell, prostitute whomever you must. Let's get better now.

While Votto looked good last year for a month there were questions before that if he would make enough contact or have enough power. If he's really on their radar and they'll do it w/o Bruce its a no brainer.

December 6, 200718 yr My only concen is that you have a young power arm...one that this organization has rarely if ever produced. Something must have went awry on his rehab stint because he was down there a long time. The other concern was that his fastball was mainly in the low 90's, rather ever seen to hit in the upper 90's. Why he loss of velocity that we heard so much about? His fastball didn't have much movement and at this point he doesn't have another pitch that he can consistently throw for strikes. He is young.... Do you need to overspend with propsects to win the Central?
