Homer Bailey

You know what? I've read all of the threads, blogs, and the fluff and after the day of surfing and reading, arguing with sticky (which was the highlight for me sticky:rolleyes::D) I think that I have changed my stance. Crud, I want to win ASAP. Sell who you will, let's git-r-done and do what we have to to put the best team we can on the field. Everyone is fair game. We lead the league in runs scored and can't sniff the post season. Let's get some starters. Heck we live in a drive thru world, I have no patience, and I don't want to be a Yankee fan. Trade, sell, prostitute whomever you must. Let's get better now.

No offense, but that's baaaad...

Honestly, I kind of think that's where I am. Except the part about not wanting to be a Yankee fan.:thumb:

My only concen is that you have a young power arm...one that this organization has rarely if ever produced.

Something must have went awry on his rehab stint because he was down there a long time.

The other concern was that his fastball was mainly in the low 90's, rather ever seen to hit in the upper 90's.

Why he loss of velocity that we heard so much about?

His fastball didn't have much movement and at this point he doesn't have another pitch that he can consistently throw for strikes.

He is young....

Do you need to overspend with propsects to win the Central?

They may have overspent on Cordero especailly w/ giving him 4 years, but to give up 1 pitching prospect and a couple of hitting prospects for a proven top of the rotation young pitcher isn't overspending.

When Homer Bailey came up from Louisville,

the waters of the Ohio River parted.

Homer Bailey's wild pitches cure cancer... too bad he's never thrown one.

Cy Young wears a Homer Bailey jersey.

There's not a bigger Orioles fan in this state than me, and I follow them very closely.

Bailey or Cuetto were supposed to be part of the package for Bedard, along with Votto. The O's want Bruce, which is reportedly why the trade didn't happen.

I read several things on Bailey's lack of desire. He supposedly doesn't really LIKE baseball and pitches because he can make a lot of money doing it. He didn't sound like someone with the hunger to reach his potential.

I hope that is not true, I really do.

He needs to be groomed to be a set up man or closer. He doesn't throw hard enough consistently or have another pitch to be an effective stater in the bigs.

Based on what?

Six months later and it's still a good read

He will never have success if he doesn't get some movement on that fastball. If it straight as an arrow and hitters in baseball terms "see-a-ball-hit-a-ball", and hit it hard. He has the velocity, but he needs placement, movement, and a major attitude makeover.

He has to develop an "out" pitch. He will get 2 strikes on a batter and can't get them out. They just foul and foul back the high fastball until he puts one on a tee for them. Give him a good change and he will be good. Maybe Soto can work with him too?

He has a decent change up, but he needs to develop that sinker/slider/curve/cutter to strike people out. You HAVE to have a very very good 2nd and 3rd pitcher to be a successful player.

:thumb: You beat me to it on ths comment, his pitches (especially fast ball) are straight as an arrow and with no movement, he "hangs" the curve. Right now Homer is a bp or home run derby pitcher. Baily has the speed and arm, imo he needs to learn how to "pitch" and not just throw. Being able to throw the ball over the plate and move the ball around in the stike zone is a must, you can't get by in the "show" w/o it.

I personally believe that his (Homer's) attitude is a BIG problem. I really had high hopes for him coming up through the minors and when he first got called up, now not so much. Maybe Baily should just retire right now and go into the HOF while he still knows everything......(j/k but this kid does need an attitude adjustment.)
