Nine appearances in the bigs...and everything else. Obviously he didn't handle the demotion too well. While initially he went down for an injury, he stayed down MUCH longer than anticipated. Plus, some of the other things I've heard convinces me he doesn't have the mental discipline to sustain the career that everyone thought he'd have.

 

BTW, quirkiness and intelligence have ZERO to do with mental toughness. If they did, we'd have a LOT less quality pitchers than we do now...

Yes, and those are so easy to come by, let's order 4 or 5 more of them. How old is he? 21? Yep, you and I were both remarkably mature then as well. Glad no one was making notes of where I'd be in 5-10 based on my 21 y.o. maturity level. Poor argument to throw him away IMO. If there's some terrific top flite starter that only requires Homer to make the deal, then that's fine. But I agree with Jim here, savior to trash in less than 9 months,,,,classic.

Now who's putting words in whose mouth? I read what you said in other threads. I'm simply not as eager to give him up due to his upside. You may have issues with his mentality/attitude, however, his tools are nothing short of top-notch. Give him away and see how long it takes us to regret it. I agree with you that the only way we should see him go is for a top flite starter, no less IMO.

I don't think we should trade him, the guys got too much potential and we'd regret trading him he turned into something. Just some coaching and a few more years and he'll be a really, really good MLB pitched, better than Bronson was or ever will be. Patience, Reds fans, we've got young talent but we need a few years.

A few years ago when the Reds got Harang, how many thought he was going to turn out like he has. I'm sure that list isn't very long. Bailey will learn how to pitch and become a major player in the future of the Reds.
