December 21, 200718 yr I think it would be pretty cool to get a list of AAU teams across the state with their rosters and any information posters could provide about these teams. Somewhat like a STate preview. Let me know what you all think. We talk so much about the top players but there are alot of other kids out there playing that could surprise some people over the next couple years by growing/improving their game. Here is the roster for the 7th grade Wolfpack with some comments. Darius Meiman - Dad Jim is head coach. Walton Verona I believe Ben Uebel - Dad Jim is assistant coach. Future Brossart Mustang. CC Kings AAU last year Justin Shelton - Goggle-free this year. Owen County. Nets AAU last year Travis Pavy - Gray MS - Ryle. Raiders AAU last year Nick Brown - Gray MS - Ryle. Nets AAU last year Drew Mays - Gray MS - Ryle. Pacers AAU last year Michael Malott - Nets AAU last year Jared Kunkel - Conner. Nets AAU last year Nate McGovney - Campbell County. CC Kings AAU last year This team is strong from top to bottom. Big and quick. Will run you up and down the floor. Undefeated in Mt. Zion league (although competition level is not on par with them). Though this is their first year, there will be debate on playing D1 vs D2 at state. A subset of this team coached by Gary Geiman made it to the Sweet 16 at the D2 U12 Nationals last year. This was done with only a little amount of practice time.

Coached the CC Kings for 4 years. Tanner Moeves - Walton Verona - Nets last year - Dad Dave Moeves coaches the 5th grade Wolfpack and coached the Nets for 5 years. Dave was also a standout at Boone County in high school. Nate Verst - Campbell Co/Brossart/NCC?? - 1st year of AAU. Based on genes he should be a good one (Jon Verst younger brother) Tyler Schweitzer - Campbell Co/Highlands?? - 1st year of AAU. This kid is a beast on the floor. He plays offensive and defensive line for the CC Red Devils and he brings that toughness to the bball court. Logan Schneider - Campbell Co - Tarheels/Star Sports last year. He needs to grasp his physical ability and he will be tough. Zach McNeil - Walton - played AAU with school team last year and won the 5th grade league. He is a threat to score from anywhere on the floor! Ben Tierney - NCC?? - 1st year of AAU Avery Wood - Lloyd/Campbell Co - 1st year of AAU Jacob Baumann - Highlands/Brossart?? - 1st year of AAU They are either 16-0 or 17-0. They have to be considered a top 5 team in the state. They have beaten the Truth, Scott Co Wolfpack and the Knights as well as others. This will also be a toss up of whether to play for the D1 or D2 crown. However, there may not be enough teams in D1 and there may be just one tournament. 2008 should be interesting for the 6th grade Wolfpack.

December 21, 200718 yr Here is a breakdown of the NKY Warriors (Rockets) 7th grade age group. Luke Turner- Highlands-3G- playing AAU since 3rd grade, long athletic kid who hustles every play and can be a lockdown defender. He can knock down the open shot as well. He should grow to 6'2 or 6'3 hopefully and continue to get better as he physically matures. His Dad has coached these kids for 4 yrs. Colin Dupont- Highlands- PG- playing AAU since 3rd grade. Great all-around athlete (QB in football, excellent baseball player). Great handle, very quick and tenacious when he wants to be. Can take over a game with defense and penetration. Very good passer as well. Leads by example on the floor, other kids feed off of his success. Bailey Witte-Highlands- 2G/3G- playing AAU since 4th grade. Has good athleticism and handles the ball well. Shoots the 3ball well and will dog you on defense with his quickness. Hopefully he grows and gets stronger cause the tools are there. Richie Whitford-Highlands- 4 or 5- Playing AAU since 3rd grade. Dominated at the post for last 3 yrs but hasnt grown much since 4th grade. Very smart player, great hands and shoots the 3 well for a big kid. If he can grow to 6'2 or 6'3 by high school he will be a good post player. Football is his main sport though, great feet and a very good offensive lineman. Future Bird footballer is a gurantee. David Christian- Highlands- 4-5 Played with the CC Kings 3rd and 4th grade and switched to Rockets when family moved to Ft. Thomas. Athletic kid, very smart, a workhorse down low with great skills. Boxes out very well and has really improved his shooting in the offseason. Dad is 6'5 and was a very good player at Heath high school in the Western part of the state back in late 70's/early 80's. Dad grew 8 inches his 8th grade year so we are hoping David can replicate this and grow to 6'5 as well. Had a great year of football at Tight End also, great hands. Brennan Devoto- NCC- PG/2G- Playing AAU since 3rd grade. A very good shooter with deceptive ballhandling skills. Dad was a very good playre for those great mid 70 NCC teams. Basketball is in the blood and he's a gym rat. Always in the right spot at right time type of player. Pete Collopy- NCC- 4 -5spot-Playing AAU since 3rd grade. Strong kid with excellent quickness and very aggressive. Lefthander who uses body well and isnt afraid to take it to the basket on the post. Huge family with brothers who all have excelled up on the hill on one sport or another. He could get to 6'4 as well. Michael Beuter- NCC- PG/2G- Playing AAU since 3rd grade. very good ballhandler, shoots the 3 very well and has great basketball instincts. His brother Kevin was a very good player at NCC a couple years back and he should carry on the tradition. Franklin Graves- Highlands-4-5 spot. Playing AAU since 3rd grade. A strong kid in the paint, rebounds well and plays very good defense. Needs to improve offensively but a very good kid who is also very basketball smart. One of those kid that will run through a brick wall for you if you asked. Basketball bloodlines run to the Schlarman family as mom Tammy was an excellent player in High school/college and Uncle Willie was also very good in High School/College. Nathan Grosser- NCC/Cov Latin?- First year playing AAU. A big athletic kid that goes about 6'0 180lbs and is a banger. He is a genius in the classroom and may opt for the Latin school is what I hear. Very coachable kid who will help this team on the blocks. This is a great group of kids who will have fun later on playing against each other in High School hopefully if they all stick with the sport and keep working hard.
December 21, 200718 yr If the 7th grade Wolfpack is what I read on here and also what I have heard they are, they should definitely play D1, at least in state. There were a couple of teams last year that went D1 in state and D2 in nationals.
December 23, 200718 yr NKY Warriors 13U swept two games today. Beat the NKY Knicks 54-30 out at Simon Kenton. Devoto and Grosser led the way with 13 and 12. Warriors were lights out shooting today and played very well on the boards. In their second game vs. Cincinnati MBA Warriors up at Evendale they won 43-22 and played the best they have all year. Everyone played well today top to bottom. Coming together. Look out for a kid from Cincinnati in the future though named Joe Kellenbach I think, he was on the MBA team and he was a very good player. One man team basically but would love to have him on my squad. Next up- Christmas tourney on Thurs night at Sports plus in Evendale.
December 23, 200718 yr Georgetown Thunder won the 7th grade division of the YMCA tournament at Georgetown College today. The Thunder beat the Louisville Rising Stars by 16 in the finals, after having lost to them on Saturday. The Thunder went 4-1 on the weekend, also beating the Louisville Storm (by 16), Lexington Blaze (by 59) and Madison Colonels (by 20) during the weekend. In the 6th grade division, the Scott County Wolfpack was playing the Frankfort Stallions in the championship game.
December 26, 200718 yr What can you tell me about the 3-4th grade Northern Kentucky Suns? They play in my son's league at SOAS. The Suns aren't bad and play hard. They don't have anybody that is outstanding just alot of pretty decent kids... Why do you ask???
