It was the Firehawks and the NKY Warriors 13U won decisively 47-32 today.

 

I think they were up by 20 most of the game. I think the Firehawks are a better team though then what they showed today. These two teams should meet back up in the final on Monday at Noon.

 

However, with that said the NKY Warriors are playing very good basketball and I think its time they enter some KY Tournaments and start playing the Tarheels/Thunder/Wolfpack to see how they measure up. They now have 3 legitimate big men that are all strong under the basket and rotate in throughout the game. They have always had good guards who can handle the press and shoot the rock very well. Having PG Colin Dupont out doesnt help but he should be back by early March and ready for State Tournament and other BCI possible tourneys.

 

Yep. The Firehawks have looked lost the past two games, Racke and Sampson aren't in game shape though and Pouncy doesn't know plays yet. They're struggling but hopefully they can right the ship tonight with two games.

Quick is 6'0" - 6'1"

Best attributes - The kid does it all very well.

Great IQ and athleticism for the game.

Very quick plays Defense can shoot the 3 or slash to the hole.

Rebounds well and very good passer.

Players that stood out:

 

All the team brought powerful squads with each player entering the game showing why he was selected. I didn’t see any bad players in the bunch, but like always there are a few players who stand out.

 

Team Kentucky - The leader of the Kentucky had to be Jason Hatcher #1, the 6’2 low post power player from the ‘ville” played like a man amongst boys. He dominated the paint grabbing both offensive and defensive rebounds while showing he had a soft touch from the free throw line.

 

James Quick #5 (Playmakers) proved to be a true Kentucky thoroughbred often times out racing the other teams defenders down court to score in a variety of ways. His none stop play on both ends of the court was a joy to watch.

 

Larry Morton #11 (the ville 7th) showed why he was selected to play up on a “ville’s” team who finished 4th at nationals. Morton’s size at 6’1, ball handling and crafty drives to the basket caused teams problems all day.

 

Mason Monroe #6 a 5’5 guard from the (Georgetown Thunder) proved to be the difference in the championship game. Monroe’s strength, outside shooting ability, drives to the basket and touch from the free throw line cemented Kentucky championship victory.

I've seen him play games against the Cincy Knights, The Ville, OBC and the Tarheels. In each and every game, he dominated. The Playmakers were the only team I personally witnessed beat the Ville. They didn't only beat them, they beat them by 10! The bottom line reason was that Quick was impossible to stop 1 on 1 or even 2 on 1 at times. The kid can play any spot on the floor offensively and defensively. When I heard he was going to the Ville, my initial thought was unbeatable. However, with the team that G'town Thunder has and a couple of other teams around the state, it may not be impossible to beat them, but improbable is more likely.

I didn't get to watch them play or even go to HOOPS. They lost both games from what I heard, which is shocking. I'm not sure who they played or what players they had available for the game. I think they only had 6 and were missing a couple of starters.

 

In order for them to compete at state, their has to be more intensity from the bench.

NKY Warriors13U just won a Christmas Tournament at SportsPlus sweeping the competition. Defeated a team from Westchester OH St. Johns Bluejays in finals 47-30. Shot the 3 exceptionally well. Big Center Nathan Grosser had a great tournament averaging double digits in points and rebounds.

According to the schedule posted on Hoops' website, it was the 6th grade Suns. You are right, though, the Suns do not have a 7th grade program. Those kids play various places now, but most play for the Fighting Irish.
