Our 11/u team this season has been highly successful with the full court press using the 1-2-1-1 and 2-2-1. Offensively no one presses us but 3-4 times and after that many layups they usually get out of it and play zone. These kids have probably played 300-400 games together since the 1st grade. It took us a couple of years to get comfortable being pressed but after that we began to like to get pressed because it provided so many scoring opportunities. Agaist the 2-2-1 you just have to reverse the ball and dribble as little as possible. Agaist the 1-2-1-1 you nedd to attack the middle after it's reversed. 4 across is also an excellent press break agaist the diamond and 1. To play at a competitive AAU level you must be able to press and be pressed. It is probably the most important part of the game at the competitive younger AAU levels.

 

This is the key. The younger they are exposed to it the better they will be.

Just got back from Hoops. The most impressive team I saw was the 12/u Louisville Legends. We played within 6-8 of them in the AAU state and I don't think we would touch them now. They are huge and athletic. very improved ball club. I think they are clearly in the top 3 along with the Warriors and Tar Heels.

Quentin Snyder, previous of the Cincinnati Playmakers 6th grade last year, stayed in the 6th grade and has been playing with the Louisville Legends. I hear he played with the Tarheels 6th last weekend, so who knows if he played with the Legends today or is changing to the Tarheels. My guess would be he played with the Legends. He would instantly make them a better team even if they added other players.

Snyder is playing with the Tarheels, legends, and ck Warriors at times. I think he is a free agent looking for the most competitive team or best situation. The legends looked like they had a couple of big kids I didn't remember seeing last season.... could be that they just grown. This is the time when there are alot of suprises do to maturity and growth spurts. Snyder holds the key to whom is the team to beat in 6th grade DI.

Georgetown Thunder played at MidAmerica today in Louisville in a round robin. They beat the Fighting Irish (whose starting lineup consisted of 4 former Louisville Suns players, who were 4/5th of the starting lineup on the team that won the state when they were in 5th grade) by 27, then beat the Louisville Rising Stars by 14. In their third game, The Ville (last year's state winner and 11th nationally) beat the Thunder by 15, but the score is deceiving. The game was tight throughout the first half and into the third quarter (The Ville were up by 3) when the starting point guard (the new kid from New Hampshire) for the Thunder went down with an ankle injury and The Ville dominated the rest of the game. The Ville are huge on the inside. Plus, they have added James Quick, who has to be in the argument for the best player in the state. So, they have to be installed as favorites to win state again, but teams like the Thunder, Rising Stars, Tarheels and Wolfpack won't give in easily.

Just a quick question, but how does MidAmerica compare to Hoops or KBA in terms of the facility itself? Seems like there are several great choices out there now. I hope they can all make it.

Hoops is definitely a better basketball and all-around nicer facility, but I like the people and setup for tournaments better at MidAmerica (please note: My contact with the Hoops people is less, so I am not saying I think it's bad). MidAmerica normally guarantees 4 games in their tournaments and since they are more established they have better contacts and more teams. There is 3rd facility in Louisville. I haven't seen it yet, but seems like overkill. I do know MidAmerica does more with volleyball than basketball, having cut down basketball tournaments in the last 2 years, which simply means most of their fields and bigger when they do host something. I believe Hoops will make a run for AAU & USSSA tournaments in the near future.

Congrats to the Thunder for making noise in this tournament. Having your PG go down never helps either. I hope he recovers for you all. Who did this James Quick play for last year? Just curious.

 

On a side note, I also heard Snyder played with the TarHeels this past weekend and they beat O B C who I beleive is from Cincinnati and loaded. I know the Tar Heels could never get their number over past year or so and they finallly handed it to em. Snyder had like 20 pts and several rebounds. If the Tar Heels 6th grade adds him for State and nationals they will make some noise as well.

If it's at Sportsplus in Ohio it's the Firehawks..

 

It was the Firehawks and the NKY Warriors 13U won decisively 47-32 today.

 

I think they were up by 20 most of the game. I think the Firehawks are a better team though then what they showed today. These two teams should meet back up in the final on Monday at Noon.

 

However, with that said the NKY Warriors are playing very good basketball and I think its time they enter some KY Tournaments and start playing the Tarheels/Thunder/Wolfpack to see how they measure up. They now have 3 legitimate big men that are all strong under the basket and rotate in throughout the game. They have always had good guards who can handle the press and shoot the rock very well. Having PG Colin Dupont out doesnt help but he should be back by early March and ready for State Tournament and other BCI possible tourneys.

James Quick is no doubt the #1 player in KY in this age group.

Last couple of years he has played for the Cincinnati Playmakers along with Snyder.

He also played with the KY Allstars.

OBC is from the Lima Area.

I wouldn't say Quick is definitely the best player in Kentucky in his age group but I would say he is an exceptional player and definitely one of the best.
