Are you serious? Does the rest of the state give HHS points for there Cannon? Man our secret is out. Now everybody is going to get one. No more Championships in Fort Thomas.

I think the abrasive defensiveness of this Highlands fan proves that you have discovered their secret. :D

I doubt it wins games for them, but I bet it never gets old for a Highlands fan, because it never stops bugging the heck out of me.

The cannon in Ft. Thomas is...............extremely annoying! Kill the cannon!

Sorry Pat, but I don't think its the 12th man either. Frankly, if we fans didn't make so much out of it, I doubt the players would even notice it going off. I didn't when I played. Not one bit. It didn't fire me up, it didn't motivate me to reach down a bit harder, it didn't do anything for me when I played. Heresy to state, I admit, but just telling the truth. Do I like hearing it go off as a fan? You betcha I do. But as for the 12th man, not at all IMHO.

So you are saying that when you to bust through the doors and run down the steps and run through the gauntlet of people that use to line the field with the cannon going off you didn't get goosebumps. What are you a corpse!!! I guess different strokes for different folks

I agree with LN on this one. No big deal. Just part of the routine on Fri. Nites in the Fort. I really doubt if anyone would notice if it didnt go off after a score. Except maybe the visitors.

I gotta go with Boom on this one. Plus I loved the fact the the visitors hated it so much.

I agree, BOOM! People that have never experienced it will NEVER understand! This isnt a jab at anyone, but I'm sure that Bluebirds both past and present can attest to. It's a feeling that cannot be described.

I wish I could tell you it did fire me up, but it really didn't. Then again, I was a very unemotional player. It was all business for me. Never was a yeller or screamer. Didn't jump up and down. Didn't pound the lockers. Didn't go nuts when I made a big tackle or block. Just went back to the huddle and worried about my assignment for the next play. Only time I got even close to being emotional was against Dixie when they had driven to about our 10 yd line on their opening drive I think it was. McMahon and I tackled their ball carrier out of bounds near where the old small Lions Club concession booth used to be. Two former players picked up Mac and me and said if Dixie scored, they were going to kill us ( and if you knew who the two guys were, you'd know we had good reason to think they were serious). That puckered me up for sure. Fortunately, on the next play Mac intercepted the option pitch and returned it to about our 5. Talk about relief. Other than that, however it was just business. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that getting too emotional can be counterproductive. I fully believe with all the conditioning and practicing that is done by Highlands, if the players just go out there and calmly execute their assignments, we'll be just fine.

Sweep, I'm sure if the cannon didn't go off, the kids would miss it and the Highlands fans would miss it even more. But that's a far stretch to being the 12th man. I don't mean to de emphasize the importance of the cannon ( I like being married to Henry), but does it have any effect on the outcome of the game.... I don't think so and no disrespect Pat, I certainly don't think it has won any games for Highlands.

I agree it's not a "12th man"...but I dare say you didn't care about it as a player because you had a "snowball's chance" of making it go off! (lol) I used to love the "exclamation point" it put on a scoring play. Being that Roger stressed to us to "act like we'd been there before" when we scored...the cannon is the surrogate spiking of the ball!

No speed!

Hold em up!

Gamer, I've been experiencing that cannon for a long, long time. Longer than anyone currently on the cannon crew for that matter.:D And I am a past Bluebird my friend. :thumb:
