It really isn't called "Olde Betsy". Someone wrote an article about the cannon about a year ago and "he" would call it Ole Betsy. Actually it has always been refered to as "The Cannon"

He's the only fellow I've ever heard refer to the cannon as Olde Betsy. Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy and was a great teacher, but just because that's what he referred to it as, doesn't mean that is its name. When we had our "little incident" with it in the summer of 06, I was calling it all kinds of names, but those words are not its name. Heck Boom probably refers to it as "Boom's Big Barrel". Its just the "Highlands cannon"; nothing more.

You know 72, on further review of the cannon pic, I don't think that is my in-law. I'm thinking that this is a very early pic and that may be "Doc".

 

Henry, could the guy to the left in the dark suit and with what looks like a tie, be Boonie? I know they guy looks like he has a head of hair, but it is an old photo:D.

The summer of '06 incident wasn't the cannons fault. Why were you calling it names? Heck at least when I was calling names after that incident, they were directed at the responsible party.:irked: Adult supervision at its finest.:flame:

The bucket is a nice touch though, what the heck were they shooting. Fortunately they dont use that type of powder or load these days, its just too hard on the barrel. This comment is echoed by a professional firework display house in OH. It must be preserved for the next generation. :thumb:

I remember that on a still night, a huge cloud of smoke would hang over/on the field for a very long time. Loved the smoke rings when they would hang together and roll over the stands.

Yea, it certainly has be perfected over the years. I think back in those years they called those guys the "Cannon Crazy's" now the guys are the "Cannon Crew".
