I am also thinking that no one reconizes those guys because maybe, just maybe thats not the Cannon Crew but the silent auction winners of the "fire the cannon" chance from the annual Boosters Dance probably held at somewhere like the old Lookout House over on Dixie Hwy in Park Hills.:laugh::laugh::dancingpa

Hey Birdman, I love the avatar pic. Is that a bull ring over the facemask. I always thought the cool pic in the old Highlands year books showed the guy with the two bar facemask, bull ring and the really cool black framed Buddy Holly glasses heading for the endzone. I love those pics. :thumb:

Yes...two bars and a bull ring...pretty standard issue in those days.

 

I remember the picture you are talking about but I can't remember his name.

 

The coolest of all...a couple of months ago, a guy I used to work with walked up and handed me a copy of the 1917 Highlands annual, it was my grandfathers senior year. The guy ran across it at a flea market somewhere.

He's the only fellow I've ever heard refer to the cannon as Olde Betsy. Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy and was a great teacher, but just because that's what he referred to it as, doesn't mean that is its name. When we had our "little incident" with it in the summer of 06, I was calling it all kinds of names, but those words are not its name. Heck Boom probably refers to it as "Boom's Big Barrel". Its just the "Highlands cannon"; nothing more.

 

Not Boom's Big Barrel, it's more like Boonie's Big Barrel:D
