Beechwood 37 Frankfort 8.

Just had the opportunity to see some game film on Frankfort. Very impressive speed at skill positions, good cut back ability with the QB. But tell me if Im wrong and I am sure you will, they seem to improv every play, with the exception of one guy, on the guys up front. What I saw on D was just about the same, the dbthe O-line looks like spectators, one push and they are done. The Panthers are lucky to have the talent they do in the backfield, cause it doesnt seem to be able to counts looked intense and in position, the line is either not well coached or were getting tossed out of position by a line that did not seem to dominate them in size. I wish you the best come this Friday, IMO even with "Franfort Speed" the Tigers O and D lines will dictate pace and outcome.

 

You're right and our backs are actually 2 steps slower in person than on tape. I really don't know how we've gotten this far.

Sorry couldn’t help but spit out a little history, but when you’re carrying this stuff for 40 yrs, sometimes you gotta let it go. Please correct me if I’m wrong on something.

 

Roger Walz (late 60’s) till 72

Took 2 teams to first round

 

Fred Mariani HC (Former Asst @ Highlands)

(hated-feared-revered and LOVED by everyone who played for him)

BUT: He took BW to the PROMISED LAND

Bernie Barre Asst

Barry Baker Asst

John Alford Asst

John Powell Asst

73-Beat everybody but Ludlow (District game - lost by 6 inches)

11-1 record – No playoffs

 

74-Same Staff as above (Class of 75)

Lost title game in last 1:30 to play after scoring 3X (called back by refs)

Murray HS State Champ-Elevated to Class AAA the next year.

Look back for a kid named Mike Murray @ BW who led most of the stats in NKY

Also Brad Hood led a defense who was stingy and tough

Mike Yeagle dressed for the state game and I believe Mike Bowling did also.

A Cheerleader from those days participates on this forum as she passes the torch to her son.

Edgar McNabb would monitor and kick everyone off the field so that the BW bluegrass stayed pristine

Only one allowed on the field (at anytime) was GAME DAY. The field was a thing of beauty & pride.

Look at the players last names back through the sixties and it reminds you of Deliverance.

The pride in this program is passed down 3rd-4th-5th generation to generation.

First Taste of the Big Show-Was the Day after Thanksgiving 1974

Look for the little black & white photo in the trophy case.

Back then, the State Runner-up was the biggest hardware, in a trophy case the size of your fridge.

The flame was lit. The program was on fire. Nothing Short of a State Championship would satisfy.

Some of these families go back 75-100 years enrolled @ BW.

This FB program is inbred, knitted in the very fabric of their lives and families.

Biggest problem BW ever had was losing the neighborhood kids to CovCath.

That’s why it’s such a Grudge Match today.

 

The Unsung Heroes:

Tom Richardson-Gary Meyer

2 Guys that voluntarily ran the chains during BW’s home games decided in 68-69 to organize the Spartans.

3 different divisions were established. The players had to stand outside of Kroger’s & ask for money.

For the first five years, a Spartan team couldn’t hardly win a game.

But this was the impetuous that established the FEEDER Program. These boys have the opportunity to develop and play together from an early age.

Now days the parents throw the money at the program and fight to get in the district, supporting the goal as early as the 3rd -4th grade.

By the time they’re Seniors, you can imagine how hungry they’ve become.

 

B. Barre carried the torch from there and finally allowed us to rest in peace.

I look for Frankfort's only success to be on special teams. Beechwoods line will cause so much havoc and probably turnovers in the backfield that it will keep their speedsters at bay. Look for great frustration on the part of Frankfort, leading to undisciplined squabbles among their own team mates.

 

Besides an occasional break away run for a few extra yards, they will struggle in the red zone on the rare accasion they get that close.

 

Beechwoods size and strength will begin to really prevail in the second half and they will pull away to victory !

I certainly respect Beechwwod's tradition as a State class A Power (and this coming from a "Beechwood aged, just call me Bud Weiser" Raceland fan ). This should be a good one. Frankfort is a good football team and are far from "sister's of the poor".

I do look for Beechwood to pull out this one and go for yet another State Title.

Yes, I suspect you have been very close to the situation, but I will continue to respectfully agree to disagree.

 

Prior to the mid 70's we always wanted to go down state but the teams in the mid 70's proved that we actually COULD do it. Yes, Beechwood struggled a little after the class of 75 left, but that team started the expectation of excellence that eventually grew into the incredible program that we have today. Bernie Barre built a great program that Mike Yeagle took to the next level. I remember the entire school getting excited about Friday night back then. No, we didnt have little kids wearing red and white jerseys on Fridays back then, but make no mistake, those elementary boys were dreaming of being a football star some day.

 

That said, back to the thread.

I told a Senior Player this morning that he needs to fire his teammates up and remind them to play as well, or better, than they did last Friday. Hard hitting, wrap-em-up and bring-em-down mentality. He countered that they were all VERY AWARE and VERY PREPARED to do what has to be done. He said there was no need for me to remind him!

I was appropriately put in my place!

Why so defensive Pigman? I gave your backs all the credit in the world, If you had seen the films I saw (games within the past month) you could not come to another conclusion. And it looks like Im not alone on this! Its the same with every team,friend, they have strenghs and weaknesses. If you think FHS is perfect, you better think twice. And before you say it, no I don't think Beechwood is perfect, I could go on for days on the things where I think they need work.

Well when you have fast backs all you need is one block and it's to the house... no need in trying to block when the back is 40 yards down field...could cause injury or a penalty.Frankfort backs are nothing without the O-line...

You'll understand once your D LIne doesn't make the first hit or your LBs get caught up in the wash down on the LOS. Alot of football teams have a back that is called a "speed guy". Frankfort has 6 backs that would be the feature back in 80-90% of all run offenses in the state of Kentucky and once they get three yards past the line the second guy is gonna miss and the third guy won't get a chance to miss becaue the PAT team will be trotting on the field.

I have posed this question before but got no response, please tell me who these 6 backs are besides 9,11,22 & 23. 23 is by far the fastest, then 22,11,9. 22 & 23 obviously have break away speed, the other two can be caught, IMO. I guess everyone's questions will be answered later tonight.
